I would suggest that starting tomorrow those of you who can to start keeping as much gasoline close to you as you can.

I have a funny feeling in my stomach and tomorrow I am going to fill my last three five gallons cans.......that would give me a total of seventy gallons at hand for an emergency.

I you do it then remember to use some stabiliser in it before filling the containers.

I'll second what Ponce says.

When the first big cold snap comes, prices will rise.(they always do)

Also,

With the default by Dubai on their loans and the never ending saber rattling with Iran, the price of fuel could easily triple, not only that, but, availability would be limited also.

Having it on hand really doesn't cost anymore because you always need it and use it. If your funds get low you can always raid the stash. But not having any at all if needed for a emergency could be bad.

Like Ponce said, remember to stabilize and or at least rotate your stock of fuel.

If gas costs $2.50 and goes up .25 cents, that's ten percent, what bank account pays that kind of interest rate ???

Answer,

None...!!!

I never thought about hoarding gas. I need to since I have 2 push mowers and 3 weed eaters that are out of gas. My riding mower is almost empty too. I have about 10 gas cans here I could fill up and have about 25 - 30 gallons on hand. I guess I should fill up the cars too before the price shoots up.

Stabilizes gas for short and long term periods of inactivity while preventing the formation of varnish.

stabilizer keeps fuel fresh for quick starts and prevents the formation of gum, varnish and rust in engines during storage.

Stabilizer only lasts for about a year, sometimes less. If you are not going to rotate regularly you might want to write the date on the cans with a magic marker or something. I keep several cans filled all the time and have some for every month of the year marked. For example now that it is December I will fill my car with my December cans and restock my cans with fresh gas and stabilizer...

40% found: 481

I keep 25 gallons on hand. Rather than use stabilizer, I just use put it in the Jeep after 3 months and refill the cans.

One thing to keep in mind about gasoline is that the fuel you buy in the summer is a little different from what you get in the colder winter months. The hydrocarbons that are prone to evaporate in warm conditions are removed for summer fuel, and the winter fuel still has them. Running summer fuel in the winter can make an engine harder to start. Also, running winter fuel (most volatile) in the summer can cause a choppy idle and roughness as load is applied to the engine. This affects carburated engines moreso than fuel injected engines, but still something to consider.

How do these two blends compare to fuel produced in the spring and fall?

They are the only 2 blends. The summer blend will come in around March/April and the Winter blend hits around October/November depending on your area's climate.

In the northern US there are more than 2 blends. Its the vapor pressure that basically changes. Lower VP in the summer and higher in the winter. The higher the VP, the more pentane, butane, and propane in the blend. If I remember right there were at least 5 VP spec changes thru out the year.

I don't suppose there is a safe way to do this if you are a renter.

Yeah, if the fire doesn't kill you, your landlord will.

Anyone though of a recycled vegetable oil mod? I've seen these done all over California with great results.
