What does one use to cut the bottom of the candlestick off? I have a couple to take apart. Also, sterling silver knives; how to remove the stainless part and cut the handle to remove any cement or clay. I think that online auction sites have items too highly priced. People need to know how little sterling silver is in them. I feel that sellers are misleading the public. The scrap jeweler's auctions seem to be a better bet to watch.

You need a 3 or 4 lb. hammer to bang them apart. After hitting the knife handles a few times you should be able to wiggle out the blade and steel support rod. You are going to pretty much destroy both, but it's going to be scrapped anyway...good luck.

Aww...Dumpster Diver...thanks. I guess I will let my son do this. He won't let me near his tools....LOL! I dunno why. Anyway, he is into the scrapping, too. I am amazed at silver going up .86 cents today. This is so much fun.

Nothing wrong with preparedness.
