I am just wondering if there are any female hoarders who read this forum. It seems like mostly guys, with a lot of "my wife/girlfriend thinks this is totally insane" posts. So, any hoardettes among our many lurking members? Raise yr hands.

Here. I was just born interested in coins. Very unusual, I agree.

Good to have you as part of our group. Does your SO give you a hard time about your hoarding activity too?

I thought about hoarding females, but the storage costs are just too high.

Forget the storage costs.. it's the maintenance costs that will break you. You would't have any money left to hoard anything else.

My family is already used to strange ideas on my part (like the upcoming collapse of the fiat dollar, investing in mining stocks, etc.). Hoarding pennies is just one more....

Well you certainly fit right in here. Most of us here don't believe those are strange ideas at all.

So, Ms. creekrat, you mentioned your family, but you did not specify that you had a significant other. If you are available i'd love to take a like minded woman on a date. We could enjoy a candlelit dinner and then go out to sort pennies by the moonlight. Just and idea:)

I've never been to a coin show .....but I'm guessing it would probably be 95%+ men.....can anyone clue me in on their experiences?

I just assumed that this site was nearly all men with a few gals here and there....

I'm curious why it is so male dominated? Gals are very involved in money...with most of the couples me and my wife know, the gal runs the household finances/banking/bill paying....so, it is not lack of exposure??? My wife rund our household finances......I call her the "Secertary of the Treasury"....and ofter have to lobby her for hoarding budget approval.....

OK, this is for all the gals out here ..."SHOW US YOUR CENTS"....

....just trying to be a bit funny....hope I did not offend anyone.

As much grief as most of us guys get from our gals for being penny crazy....I'm sure it stirs some fanatasy of the imagination for some of us when we hear of hoardettes......now if you run into any coin babes that are also into hot rods and hunting......I fear I'll have do some upgradin' of my collection!!!!

I have a theory that the reason all the tellers at banks nowadays are female is that they're more willing to buy into all the nonsense that our currency system has become, so they make better bank employees. I'm glad to see there's at least one woman with a head on her shoulders out there.

See, guys realize that the whole "finances" thing is just a stupid game, so we get bored and angry with it, which is why we leave it to our SO's to manage the home finances.

A big mistake, imho, but then, I'm terminally single.

Jason, you are such a romantic. What woman could resist such an offer? Sorting pennies by moonlight.. how is this done? Wouldn't the error rate be tremendous? Most of us need a fair amount of light to sort pennies.. I went out in the backyard and tried this sorting by moonlight thing. Very romantic.. just me and the skeeters. Couldn't see a damn thing! Maybe the moon wasn't full enough. Maybe my old eyes just can't do it. Should we run a really long extension cord out back and hook up the Ryedale? Maybe use the backlit digital scale? Please tell us how to do this.. perspiring minds want to know.
I think if I can find out the secret to this I can propose the idea to my girlfriend. If you guys don't see me on the board for a few days it means I probably got clobbered upside the head with a bag of pennies.

I can see how hand-sorting under the light of a full moon (or eclipse) would majikally improve yr chance of finding an indian head.

You are right, hoardcopperbytheton. Moonlit sorts may not be practical. Perhaps creekrat will join me for a sorting session beside a warm, bright campfire when it gets a little colder. What do you say creekrat. Shall i start gathering firewood?

OK boys....like I said, a gal and her coins are a facinating sight.....but let's not scare Creekrat back into her hoarding hole....she was a good sport by raising her hand and checking in....

Jason - you're only after her for her Cu....

BTW: my wife claims that the reason the gals mostly do not hoard....is that they are too busy working, running the house and cleaning up after the man...no time left over for hoarding.

Hoarding, of course, is a lot of work itself. Those 100lb crates of nickels don't move themselves.

On that note I will post a pic of what I got for moving multiple boxes. I'm trying to keep a low profile so a small footpring following me out the door is a good thing- it still got everyones attention though. I have decided to stick with only 2 boxes at a time so as not to use it but here it is, Harbor Freight movers dollie and handle. Happy hoarding all, Mark
Sorry looks like photobucket is down I will add pics tonight.

How many boxes can you stack on that dolly? I usually pack 5 boxes of nickels per milk-crate and move them in those. I stopped using the military tactical harness because people were giving me some seriousl looks - "You're not supposed to run around in public with bulky packages strapped all over your body in a post-9/11 environment" type looks.

Yeah, I can see where those bulky packages strapped to your body might worry some folks.

Accorting to the weight capacity that thing will haul 10 milk crates full of nickels if you can stack them all on there without them falling over. Of course moving half a ton of coin all by yourself might be a little bit of a grunter even for a stud like Canadian_Nickle.

That beats the capacity of my little dolly that only can handle 660 pounds.. but I have a 24" x 36" platform so I can probably still stack more coins on it. MeCo's dolly can sure haul a lot of boxes of half dollars. Good thing, cause those things are even heavier than boxes of nickels.

As far as the dollie goes, yea it will probly handle 1000lbs. but the handle is only rated at 600lbs. I could probly get 5 or 6 boxes in a milk crate easy and strap it on, I don't think I would stack another on top though- too top heavy. Besides the half dollar boxes are $500 a pop, big difference from pennies. unfortunately the only time I used it so far was the night of them pics- I hurriedly got it and put it together cause I had them 3 boxes waiting for me at the CU. Worked great except no tiedowns and I lost the top box a couple times in the rough parking lot. Worst part of that ordeal was leaving the teller window I realized the floor was all tile- click, click, click, the door seemed a football field away and the clicking got louder and louder. I may as well had on giant shoes and a red ball on ME nose as all eyes were on ME. I finally got to the door, turned around and looked at everyone still staring with mouths gaping open and dipped my hat and left. I have to go back there Saturday but it is for only two boxes- NO CART haha. If I ever use it again I will make sure the floor is carpet haha. HH Mark

Jason don't worry, I'm not scared off! And I just discovered a plus side of being a female hoarder. I went into a bank this week to get 8 boxes of pennies, and lo and behold there was a male teller behind the counter. He volunteered to carry the boxes to my car for me and load them in. I wish there were more male tellers out there...

Wow creekrat, how did you talk them out of 8 boxes of pennies? I have a hard time getting 1 or 2 boxes at a time if I don't preorder. Yeah, those male tellers are great.. I used to have one at one of my banks that would put all 12 of my boxes I got at that bank each week on their cart and haul them out to my car and load them up for me. Now that's customer service! Unfortunately he got promoted and moved to another branch. I have never had any female tellers haul any of my pennies for me. If you are going to play at that level you might want to consider getting your own cart to haul the pennies with. I got one that has a flat platform, a fold down handle, and is rated for 660 pounds after seeing the one the bank used. That cart is one of the best investments I have made in my penny operation.

You are not the only female hoarder out there. My boss qualifies as a super hoarder and she doesn't even have a machine. Another lady friend is also just getting started in hoarding and she is asking me for tips on talking the banks out of a decent amount of pennies. Her credit union wasn't very nice to her the first time she asked.

I did preorder those 8 boxes, but I have had a lot of experience with walking into a bank and getting 4 to 8 boxes without preordering. Go figure.

I do have my own dolly now and used it today for the first time and it was a disaster. I had preordered another 8 boxes from a different bank with no male tellers . I loaded the 8 boxes onto my dolly, and 2 of the boxes fell off the dolly while I was trying to make it out the double doors. I hated the whole experience. I think I'll stick with Penny Express from now on.

You just have the wrong dolly. Most dollies are not well designed for moving boxes of pennies. Just check out the dolly Penny Express uses the next time they deliver to your house and buy one of those. My Flat flatform dolly easily transports 24 boxes with none ever jumping off. If I had the other type of dolly I would probably use those great FREE bins the post office is always misplacing and some bungee tiedowns to avoid slippage. For getting through those double doors at the bank with your treasure intact check to see if they have a handicap button that will open the doors automatically for you.

BTW: I have great looking legs despite 220# bull-dog build....should look great in something short and tight.....
