Hi All,
I had someone give me several thousand 12 and 20 gauge empty shells. I was thinking about the scrapyard when I accepted them, but when I tried to cut the plastic away from the brass, it took forever just to do one. Not really worth the time and effort...

I'm not a reloader...Is there any $ value in these given the current climate?

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.

Could you burn off the plastic? I got $1.20 a pound for brass last month. Not sure what way would make you more money!

It depends on the shell. Most reloaders like the shells with high brass. The brass about 3/4 of an inch tall. The shorter stuff is less favorable for reloading.

Also when scrap yards buy ammo brass the spent primer in the middle has to be removed.

Not around here. Spent brass brass cases are fine with primers still in them as long as the case is free of projectile & powder.

As for the shotgun shells. If they are high brass and in good shap, clean, then you should list them on Craigslist. If you do want to scrap them, check them with a magnet to be sure they are brass, then burn the plastic out of them and sell them. Good shotgun "hulls" as they are called do good on CL.

Ok thanks for the tips everyone...threw a magnet on 'em and they stuck .

I guess the aren't even brass. They are all 12 gauge- (I had first thought 12 and 20).

The brands are finocchi (Italian) and sellers. Not high brass like you guys mentioned.

I guess I'll just pitch them unless the local gunshop wants them.

Thanks again for the advice.

Hey, I learned something about the 'high brass' potential! Good to know!
