Do you think 2009 mint sets and proof sets will be less brisk in sales than other years? I was thinking of buying a mint or proof set from the US Mint as a souvenir. Probably be able to find them on ebay for the same price a few years from now? Should I just save the $$ and buy pennies with it instead and set aside the copper?

I think the mint set and the penny proof sets will give a decent return in the long run, but no immediately.

| I dont think they will go up much in value. LOTS of people bought them to get the 09 nickels and dimes, since its nearly impossible to get them in circulation. |

And how many will be cut open to get those dimes and nickels out? |

I order about 15 sets of each every year. Most are for Christmas gifts since it's easier than shopping for stuff no one really wants. So I give one proof, one Uncirc and one Ringed version of the Red Book to people for gifts. Those are something that you know they will not throw away, give to the Salvation Army, sell at a garage sale, etc. They are sort of stuck with those and something to remember me by at the same time. As to a possible monitary gain from those? Not sure but the massive amount of people buying them, hoarding them, storing them will make is so it would take several thousand years for them to be worth a lot of money. |
