Arrrggghhhh! Only my second $500 order, two weeks after the first, and they're already cutting me off! "If you keep this up, we'll have to charge you $4.25 a box."

Hoard now and hold on!

That's a funny amount and requires you to give them coins which is sort of ironic :)

Do you have an account? Ask them if they'll like it better if you deposit that many halves every week.
If you don't have an account, open one and then deposit. You can take it out of the mac machine next day.

I do have an account there! So much for that bank for pickups. Looks like I'm gonna have to scale back my big dreams of getting a Ryedale and just be happy with hand-sorting one box a day. I was trying to stockpile boxes in case the swine flu got really ugly and we had to stay indoors for awhile, I guess I'll just have to be content with the 120 boxes I haven't sorted yet.

If you need to sort 120 boxes now in storage get a Ryedale man! $500 in pennies is quite a few boxes for one bank - you might suggest you are a great guy and can scale back to just $250 a week if they forget about the fees.

That might work, plus I thought maybe I'll just leave that particular branch alone for three months or so.

Spreading your orders around will help. Different banks and branches gives more chances to find cool stuff while keeping you under the radar.

So if one Bank puts the smackdown on your ordering, just wlak across the street to another bank.

One of my regular banks tried to charge me $7.50 'in fees' for a $25 box of pennies. "It's in the disclosure statement." I walked out with no pennies. I'm in the process of closing my accounts at that bank. Initials W.F.

Boy I'm glad I don't bank there! That sucks! Hope you have other means of obtaining bulk pennies.

Each branch will have different comfort levels about the amount they are willing to order before they start using the "f" word. I used to have one out of the way bank that got me 12 boxes a week for several months. Originally I did not have an account there but had several 7 figure company accounts at that bank that I am responsible for. They talked me into opening a personal account there since they were being so nice. A few months later they started using the "f" word and cut me off. Every time I go in there to do company business they ask about why I don't give them more of my persoanl banking business. They start talking like they are going to get me pennies again, but it never seems to happen. I try to give my personal banking action to whatever bank is treating me the best on my pennies.

AmelekiDad.. hope you close out your credit card at WF if you have one. I was at a Wells Fargo bank the other day. The teller had the audacity to ask me if I wanted a Wells Fargo Credit Card. I asked her "Didn't I just hear in the news that WF is raising up the rates on the their Credit Cards to try to get them up higher before the new law goes into effect next year?" She tells me "Well, all the banks are doing it" I say "What is the new rate going to be.. something like 30%.. are you only raising it to that because there might be some semblance of usary laws on the books. I told her no thank you, and that I am cancelling my current card because I refuse to be gouged. I aked her what they are paying on savings accounts and CD's versus their rates, and didn't that seem like a little bit too big of a margin. I told her that is way too much interest and eventually people would figure it out and stop doing business with them. Of course the interest rate doesn't really matter if you are going to default on the loans, so the net effect will probably be that the better risk customers will close their accounts and pay them off, and the higher risk folks will keep their accounts and default. Then the bank will say "See, those credit card loans have a high default ratio so the rate is justified by the risk." Sort of a self fulfilling prophesy.

Shoudn't the US government get like 20-25% from Wells Fargo on those TARP loans.. they seem pretty risky. They could just tie the rate to 3 or 4 percent under whatever the bank charges. It allows a reasonable margin for profit and administration. After all.. it is our money the bank is using to generate income from these obscene interest rates.. shouldn't we get the bulk of the return since we provided all the capital?

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

True CopperCatcher. I told them the other reason I was cancelling was cause I thought they were paying their CEO way too much for company losing so much money.

Part of the reason they are losing money is they are booking things to reserves that they should have booked at an earlier time and they are playing catch up. Just watch.. they will suddenly have a profitable quarter in the future.
