I was curious as to purchaseing some lead ingots of ebay. A few questions I have are is there any difference in purity of soft lead vs. hard lead and what purity do wheel weights , bullets, etc. start out at?

Soft lead is a more pure lead. Metals are added such as arsenic and antimony and tin to harden. I sell lead ingots from time to time and was about to melt some more soon.

I use wheel weights. They seem to produce a alloy with a bit of hardness to it, but since all the different companies use all kinds of different alloys, it is hard to tell the exact composition.

I'm sure others here have more experience than me, but hope it helps.

The Pb I sell to bullet casters is from batteries (soft), they don't want wheel weights.
The "Sn" soldier casting crowd is happy with wheel weight Pb, which is harder.

I wont be casting with it. Just another metal to hoard. Lead was at $2 before so it seems to be another metal with potential. Plus it has uses post shtf.
