I've noticed some listings on ebay for 2009 Lincoln penny errors. Do you think there will be a real market for this or is it just a fad?

Do many of you look for error 2009 Lincoln pennies when you are sorting?

I don't bither checking new pennies for errors. I put more time looking into the known errors with value, like the wide AMs etc.
I started spending so much time looking for errors, my sorting went to almost nothing, so I cut back.
Most of the new coin errors (IMO) run a fad then die out. I was selling a lot of dollar coin errors through 07 and 08 and doing well, but the things that used to pull real money now maybe get five bucks. I have a couple of rolls of coins with misaligned edge lettering and such that probably wouldn't sell nowadays. Just think about the speared bison. They were over $300 at one time, now I think they're 3 bucks. But if you can catch a fad, run with it. It will support your hoarding habit.

I would like to add that these "new errors" have are much like IPO's. Start out selling high, then drop to a depressed value. If they last however they do gain value in time. Key element is, will these new errors be considered valuable in the future. If you find one hold on to it and find out.

Selling Copper cents. $0 FV available at 1.4xFV. Also interested in trading for wheat pennies and other coins Please pm me for requests or inquiries.

But every time I suggest this page to someone, I include a warning: there are THOUSANDS of possibilities. It all depends on how far you want to dig into variety hunting.

Hey how much can I expect to spend to get the 1998-2000 wide AM's for? If I have to buy them, I mean. Obviously I would love to find 'em in my sorting.

The 99 will cost a bit. I don't know the going rate(check Ebay completed sales), A 98 I can let you have one for a couple silver dimes if you really need one. I don't know if I have multiple 2000 though I would have to look. But an extra 98 I know I have..

I've got an extra 2000 also. 6 silver dimes for a 2000 and a 98.. Shipped.

Will consider this. I'd have to get the dimes first. I have none.

I have a 1999 Wide AM that I received in change. Sent it off to be graded and it came back as an AU 58 and have had a guy offer me $150.00 for it sight unseen. I have been told it is worth more though so I am still considering my options.

If you went to the CONECA home page there is a brief write up about me finding it, a good ways down their page now. The picture isn't my coin, I think it is a stock photo from Ken Potter. But the picture will help you locate the article.
