Last week, I took a chance and had bought $20 in nickels but didnt do very well sorting them. I fealt a little disappointed and wasn't sure if I was going to try sorting them again. Before totally giving up, I had one of my pick up banks order me $100 in nickels this week.
For my 1st $100 box I think I did pretty well
1 - 1937 buffalo head nickel 1 - 1945 D silver war nickel 14 - 1940s nonsilver nickels 2 - pre-1980 canadian nickels 1 - 2000 canadian nickel 60 - pre-1970 nickels 1 - $1 2004 mexican peso 1 - 1975 british new penny
Not sure what you guys think but I have to admit I was pretty excited about the silver nickel and the buffalo nickel

If the 2000 Canadian has a little P under the queen it is pretty rare (not worth much mind you, but very hard to find). The Peso's worth over 7 cents - never found one of those in the nickels before. |

Now that is a good box. A typical average good box. That UK penny is Cu too, so not a complete loss on the missing nickel.

I was sorting them out because I read another listing on here that said that several people are hoarding the pre-1970 nickels in the hopes that when the melt ban is lifted and nickels are melted, some pre-1970's may have more value.
Maybe I'm wrong in keeping those? Im new to hoarding nickels |

i keep out pre 60's only. also s mints. by saving pre 70's you will end up with a TON of 1964's that may as well be in with your regular nickel hoard. |

Pre-60's only for me on sorted coins. Otherwise enough unopened $100 bricks in reserves to build a house. |

You can do OK on ebay with '38 and '39 sets circulated. also watch for the 1950-D, Rare they are, probably worth a couple of bucks apiece. |
