Just finished sorting my first $100+ awhile back. So I went to my credit union to order $100 of pennies (they told me they order them from BOA). No questions asked, they are happy to order as much as I like. I went to pick them up on Friday, and they gave me 4 $25 sealed boxes of 2009 P Professional Life Lincoln pennies. At first I was discouraged because I had nothing to sort. Then I went home and listed 3 of the 4 boxes as 1 day auctions on Ebay with starting bids of $40. 24 hours later and somebody bought all 3 boxes for $65 each (plus $11 S&H each), netting me a profit of $120! Plus, I get to keep the 4th box for free. My wife is going back Monday to order $200 in pennies. If I get sealed boxes, great... instant profit. If I get old pennies, lots of sorting to do. The way I look at it... that $120 profit means my first 12,000 CU pennies are free.

Good for you. That is a nice score. I have only ever seen three Professional Life coins in the wild. I have of course seen the proof coins. |
Just my two cents! |

Congratulations! Getting zinc isn't so bad as it was in the past. You could buy boxes of solid copper with the proceeds. You may want to give your buyer combined shipping on those 3 boxes. It is customary to pass the S&H savings on to the buyer when selling multiple boxes. You can easily ship all 3 boxes in a flat rate box for the same price as one. Check out the instructions for shipping copper pennies in the members only section. Even though zinc cents are lighter, the instructions are still relevant. Tape is your friend. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Congrats! I don't want to be a downer here but you should note the following about ebay.
Given the prices you stated above, you actually walked away making 56.81 per box. equaling a total sales of 170.43 minus the investment (75) gets you a total earning of just under $95.00...
It's not horrible, but they will take an immediate cut in the ball park of 13%. |
Selling Copper cents. $0 FV available at 1.4xFV. Also interested in trading for wheat pennies and other coins Please pm me for requests or inquiries.

You're right... forgot about the fees. I haven't sold anything on E-bay in awhile. Oh well, I think I'll sell the 4th box too... what do I need a bunch of rolled 2009's for? |

Besides.. you could always just rebuy them later when they are cheaper. |
