Hand-Sorted $133.50 worth of pennies (all from my Credit union) over the last 3 weeks.
Results are kind of what I expected from reading through all the other posts, though I was a little disappointed with the wheat totals. Overall total Cu was 22.2%. Best find was a 1964-D Silver Dime and earliest was 1920-P wheat penny. I ordered another $100 in pennies from my credit union, will pick them up on Tuesday.
35 - Wheats -0.26% (earliest -1920-P) 2670 - 1959-1981 Cu - 20.0% 262 - 1982 Cu - 1.96% 86 - 1982 Zn - 0.64% 10269 - US Post 82 Zn - 76.93% 5 - US Dimes (1 1964 Silver!) - 0.04% 14 -Canadian Cu - 0.10% (earliest - 1951 George VI) 7 - Canadian Zn - 0.05% 1 - Euro 2 cent (dated 2005) - 0.01% 1 - Plastic Play Money Penny - 0.01%

Welcome to the forum. Your wheat percentages are not that far off from mine. I get 8-15 wheats per box. You are just below the low end, and I have gone through as many as 8 boxes with limited wheats only to later hit the mother-load. So you may do better in the future. |
Just my two cents! |

Welcome to our world!
Super Congrats on finding a silver dime with your pennies. I understand that is a very allusive club. There might even be a separate topic for you to post your find.
Continued success and hope you enjoy this hobby. |

Lets back up a second. You are disappointed with the wheats but found a silver dime. Who cares about the wheats, you found silver in your pennies. I have sorted 10's of thousands of dollars in pennies and have never found any silver.
Looking for wheats is like making homemade chocolate chip cookies. You know there are chocolate chips in the mix, you just don't know which cookie will have the most chips. |
You don't have to be the BEST you just have to be.......SLICK

First sort and he pulls a silver dime. I have only found 3 in all the tons of pennies I sorted. Better get ready for a lot of diappointment. What, no Indians either?
If you are disappointed in your wheat yield.. just sort more. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

AgMan welcome to the wonderful world of treasure hunting! You will find copper, silver, wheats and yes eventually you will find Indians in the wild if you look long enough. One person even reported finding a gold coin! Truly amazing finds happen all the time here.... Enjoy!
