Do all, most, or only some yards let the public buy scrap metals from them? Has anyone ever traded instead of getting cash or check payments?

| Probably just some. The more loyal you are to one, the more they will be willing to help you and raise prices on larger loads for you. I've never traded metal for metal, but I often trade metal for parts off of cars that I later resell for more than I would of got for just the metal. My yard lets me get any part based on weight alone. Give it a try. -Mike |

We asked this at one of the area scrap yards, because my father is an auto body man and we were dropping off a load of steel. They said they could not sell parts because then they would need to get a license to sell stuff, and would have to pay sales tax, etc.
But I bet others would be different. But like the previous poster said, if you're loyal they will possibly help you out a little on that stuff. |

My yard sells to the public. We are commited to reusing the non-renewable resources of our environment and we help our customers do the same. People are welcome to come into our yard and pay cash only for usable steel, aluminum, stainless, copper and brasses. All pricing is based on current market conditions.

Most yards sell to an end user who is tax-exempt (mills, foundries, etc), so it is unlikely they would want to deal with non-exempt buyers. I buy my copper chops from the same place that I buy Cu for my company and the whole buy is covered on a company PO. I reimburse the company for what I buy. |

| If you ever see anything that you really want try to trade pound for pound. One friend of mine was able to do that a while back. |

Chops are made from heavier gauge copper wire that is fed into a machine that chops them up into pieces ~1/4" long. |

| I was driving through town the other day and passed a junk yard. It had a big sign advertising brass, copper and other metals. I pondered going there one day to see what they wanted for 100 pounds of copper, but then thought I should just go to the bank and buy nickels instead. They're 75% copper, and a whole lot easier to spend. |

| Heh, I saw some Christmas lights in a BREAKAGE pile! Next time I go I am bringing in some real breakage and am going to try to trade pound for pound, then, cut the bulbs off of the lights, and make a few extra bucks. |

| I just got $1.00 a pound for insulated wire. Good luck on your purchase. You should be able to make some money! |
