I was given one of these today!

A classic Martinka token with the words: "Mundus Vult Decipi: Decipiatur" and an image of a magician. Both sides are the same. Roughly translates to: "The world wants to be fooled, so fool them." Early 1900's.

Mine is in this condition:

Cool man. A gift?

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

My Dad is a lifetime magician with many published and other accomplishments. He has spent much of the last ten years teaching magic to kids through our local library. Past president of several magic clubs over the years.

He has passed on a huge amount of coins, many walkers, but also early English Pennies and many other half dollar sized coins including the early Chinese coins with the square hole. He always kept his coins for magic separated from the family coin collection from fifty years ago. I never saw some of the stuff and this coin just surfaced and he passed it to me.

Dad now has some Alzheimer's and I am lucky when his mind is working.

I notice there is a limited amount of information available on this coin and the date of manufacture is unknown but approximately 100 years old. My Dad got the coin in April of 1964 and the coin folder is marked "60-65" years old from the 1964 inscription on the folder.

It is in perfect condition and has the patina of a nickel.

Mundus vult decipi, ergo decipiatur, a Latin phrase, means "The world wants to be deceived, so let it be deceived."
Mundus vult decipi, decipiatur, probably means "The world wants to be deceived, deceive it."

Cool coin. It is always neat to get something from an older relative. My dad had a few, less than a handful, of coins when he passed. I keep those in a separate safe.

You don't have to be the BEST you just have to be.......SLICK

Nice coin there. And there is a growing amount of people that now collect magicians coins. One of the real big ones is the two headed or two tailed ones. I just purchased a two headed Ike Dollar for $25 and thought that was cheap.
