Hoard, How many pennies does it take to get one of those bars?

I have a barrel o pennies in the garage....that bar would not take up as much space. ;-)

So I, fasteddy a "noobie" to here, decided to prematurely finish filling my barrel..I bought a small "hoard" of pennies from a coworker...30# and sorted...8 canucks,12 wheats oldest 1916...1 mercury, 2 black Roosevelts, 1 black nickle, and a small container of blue jean lint...oh and 831 Cu pennies. It will take awhile to fill that barrel o pennies. I wonder how much weight that poly drum can take?

I enjoy reading ya'lls post's...I don't know if sorting 30 # of pennies was fun...I told my wife it was and she looked at me weird....one of those faces...ya'll know what I mean...lol

I am in Texas...I think Scotty and I are neighbors.

Those black roosevelts might be silver. Silver tarnishes black.

It takes quite a few barrels.. lol.. and silver seems to be climbing faster than the market price of copper pennies.. so you better keep sorting.

You will know how much the drum can take as soon as the side splits and they spill out all over the floor. Your wife is gonna love that!

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

1 black nickle

Please don't melt any pennies. There is a melt ban.

Does the "black" Nickel have a big mint mark on the back above the building? If so it is a war Nickel with 35% silver...worth only 95 cents

You don't have to be the BEST you just have to be.......SLICK

Hey fellas,

I picked up a couple of boxes from my BoA and one box is mostly the log splitter rolls that are brown paper tight rapped and rolled on both ends.

Do I give these to my kids or send them back or keep for later?

Any BU rolls that are wrapped in what's called "Shotgun" wrappers
are worth saving. When the "Log Cabin" cents first came out, they were going for up to $8 each are our local coin club auction though once all the members got their rolls the prices came down. Try calling a couple of coin dealers in your area to see if they are interested. The last roll of Rail Splitter cents at the coin club went for $2. Usually the highest prices are received when they first come out.

PS: I am a newbie and this is my first post. I've been enjoying this site for the past couple of weeks. Zig

You guys in Texas seem to have all the luck getting new pennies. All new rolls of pennies have a premium and someone would buy them from you for a profit or trade you something for them. Are the railsplitter cents D mint?

Hoard, they are D mint. When I was in Denver on Monday the mint would not let me in. I was dressed in disguise...I was trying to look liberal but it didn't work. Should I save the rolls or let em go?

You should sell them fast. The LP2 D mints still have a slight premium.. but that is the least desireable of the 6 issues released so far this year. Sorry you didn't get into the mint.

Okay, another 'rookie' question! You mention "six issues so far this year" ... do you mean that there are 6 different 2009 penny designs (I thought there were only 4 different Zincolns for 2009)

Thanks

By 6 i think he means the 3 designs released, and the P and D mintmarked ones are one type each and the 2009 pennies are made of copper are they not? didn't they go back to the 1st metal composition they used for this year?

Must hoard more......

Here is what I have found on the new pennies, this is a link to the US mint web site. The way it sounds there is going to be some 95% copper pennies however I think they will be for collection. If some one coud figure out how to get a bow ordered and directly deposited in there name I think there might be some money to be made. Just a thought.

Here is the link You must be logged in to see this link.

Hey George...I know you are trying every day to get back home...God speed to ya.

that 454 means you have one or wish you did...and what is it in? or is it the grams to pound conversion....just curious...I am a motor head..I have three big blocks in five vehicles...Fords. I do need my own oil well to feed those beasts...fortunately I can't drive them at the same time.8-) I did have a 455 in my 70' SX that was pretty bad in it day w/ Nitrous before Nitrous was popular almost 30 years ago.

....anyway this here TX noobie to hoardin, just picked up his first box of halves....one '76 S mint proof...and thats all folks!

Dissapointed by already have the second box on order.

I have hand sorted ten boxes of pennies and the ratios suck. About 17% Cu....5 wheats and a canuck or two per box. No plastic or renegades yet.

fasteddy.. You better check the date on the feathered liberty again. You can't possibly have found an Indian Head Cent in Texas. Didn't you know.. there are no wild Indians in Texas! Just ask TenBears.

Congratulations!
