I was sorting through a box of dimes (only silver was a 1968 Canadian Dime) and i came across this dime. To me it looks like a penny reverse was stamped on the dime's obverse, does anyone know what this is?

If needed I'll try and get better images up but

1. I'm a horrible picture taker

2. My camera isn't all that great

Thanks

I'm having trouble seeing it very well. But, is the penny design backwards on the dime from what it would be on a penny?

Probably someone doing an experiment squeezing the two coins together, but I am only just learning so we will wait for the long time coin experts on here to offer an opinion.

I have seen pennies stamped on dime planchets at coin shows, and I have seen Lincolns with the reverse stamped on the front. However, I have never seen a Roosevelt dime with a Lincoln reverse stamped on the front. I'll look and see what I can find, but I don't know. Something to look at might be to see if it is a mirror image of the Lincoln cent on the dime, or if held next to a penny does it look the same?

IT does look the same, and you can make out the words, oF America but they are backwards. The lettering style is like that used on the penny. Now then, let's return to my fantasy of my 1st great find haha.

1st thoughts before i read any posts was that someone put them in a vice. then i read everything. since it is backwards, it was from being in a vice.

I agree with slickeast, probably a high schooler screwing around in a shop class with a vice. I had a flattened quater that had a penny imprint. Someone put a quarter on the amtrack rail and let it flatten, and then put a penny on top to try to squash them together. Made for a weird distorted quarter.

I am not really sure, it could be post mint. However, go to You must be logged in to see this link. and look at #9 on the varieties. Maybe thats what it is, but I'm probably less informed than you. The bottom table has it valued around $300 if in fact thats what it is. BTW, this is my first successful posting of a link (hopefully!). I am about as computer illiterate as they come, lol. -Mike

Somebody had too much time to waste a vise and probably a couple of wooden blocks.
We'd do this type of thing when things got slack at the mill.

If the text was normal it could be a mis-strike. But the text is backward. Put a regular penny against it and you will find it fits. Just someone fooling with a vise but interesting, and worth 10 cents.

Being done all the time lately. As they are found and publized, more and more people try this by placing two or more coins in a vice. Many are with all sorts of different denomimations.
