Found a sweet coin in a Brinks box tonight...1991-1995 WWII Victory Medal Half Dollar. I googled it and found it was a commemorative half released by the Philly Mint in 1993 to honor the 50th anniversary. Has anyone found one of these?

| I have found a few different clad commems but not that one yet, I got Mt Rushmore, and Olympic one, a Civil War one and a few of the Statue of Liberty ones. They are kinda fun but I would prefer them to be '64 haha. HH Mark |

| Nice find! I've found a few Statue of Liberty 1986 clad halves too. I've heard of others finding 90% commemorative halves from the '20s to the '50s in $500 boxes. I'd love to get one of those. |

I got one of the Columbian Exposition ones a few monthes ago, appears they are the most common but still fun to find. Also got 2 or 3 of the George Washington which are also 90%. If I was going to go "Numismatic" and start buying coins for a set I would go after the old commems but I just can't see spending that much on $5 worth of silver, I think the Hawaii one goes for $3K but most are just in the hundreds. Here's a pic. HH all, Mark

BTW of course I am wrestling with the idea of turning this 1/3oz into a full one or more. |

I would love to find more of these. I've only found a clad Statue of Liberty, and LOTS of foreign coins. Non of the non-US happen to be silver, but they are fun to see before returning tothe rolls :)

Great find on the Columbian expo coin! The coins were for sale at the expo, but there were so many left over that they were released "into the wild" just like a business strike.
After finally completing a Mercury dime set, I have been bitten by the commemorative bug. There are a few fugly ones, but most of them are beautiful coins. Not *too* expensive, either. I don't care for a lot of the moderns, but the first generation of commemoratives has some real stunners. They're kind of sleeper coins -- beautiful, low mintage, but still affordably priced (even the graded ones), as numi coins go.
Here's a link to a PCGS article about commemoratives, if anyone is interested:

Good job on the WWII! I have found many clad comms and quite a few 90% including 3 Stone Mountains, a Monroe Doctrine, a couple George Washingtons and several others. They are the most fun to find and carry a nice premium! |
