this past saturday i had day one of CERT TRAINING. however!, no one told me i had to take a pic that same day!!! we covered 2 1/2 units. disaster preparedness, fire safety, and medical 1. in the latter one we learned about triage. hands on activities? fire suppression! and turning off the gas.
homework? preparing an emergency backpack!!! finding all the utilities in the house and testing them. counting and testing all the smoke detectors in the house. a three bedroom home would have FIVE smoke detectors. why? one in each bedroom, one in the hallway and one in the living room. an upstairs would also have a smoke detector!!! if you sleep upstairs and the detector is downstairs you won't hear it in your sleep, folks!.
we have the opportunity to buy 35 gallon water barrels for only $15/each. and the 6.5 ft. hose attachment for $1.00. this is the price for the city. the city wants people to have these as well. since in my family i would need to have 70 gallons of water for a two week period two barrels would be enough. of course a third one could be added to make it three weeks. i have to pay them either in cash or check next saturday. this way by the third saturday the barrels are there ready to pick up.
in the end, when an emergency strikes the area CERT TRAINED volunteers would be called up to help first responders.
THIS TRAINING IS FREE!!! ITS UNDER CITIZEN CORP. ITS FEDERAL. I RECOMMEND IT!!! FREE PEOPLE!!!

Caridad. Your civil mindedness is an example for us all. Good work.
I would add though, if an emergency does occur, keep your eyes and ears open. If things get too far out of hand, get home and take care of your own family. |

today in CERT TRAINING we practiced medical triage. we bandaged and splinted arms, legs, eyes, respectively. we also saw a RAW VIDEO of THE GREAT WHITE fire.
i never want to have to see that again. i stood up and paced the class. i almost walked out the room!!! you could hear 100 people screaming for their lives as they died in flames.
the back doors to the club were chained shut because they didn't want to pay bouncers to man the back doors. they herded people to the front door were they piled up and crushed each other. they also jammed the doorway!!!
you can see how people jumped on top of other people desperate to get out!!! THIS IS SOMETHING I WILL NOT FORGET.
after class today i kept looking for the sprinklers in the buildings. fortunately, they were there.
that club did not have sprinklers, a fire extinguisher, or the fire marshall!!! by the time the fire dept got there---4 minutes later the building was consumed!!!

Your local volunteer fire dept will train you for how fire and chemicals act react and combust. You learn smoke coloring and as you said the properties of the conditions encountered in extreme situations.
You also learn to conquer fear and panic to a degree, because you run in where others run out.
I'm with you. Everyone should get some medical training and ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings. |

| tomorrow i finish my CERT TRAINING!!! THEN I get my photo ID and a class grad pic. we do our simulation tomorrow as well. i've already signed up for their quarterly practice drils. it's sept 1st. not like i'm going anywhere!!! |

| today i finished my CERT TRAINING class. we recieved our diploma, met the mayor and councilman for my hometown. nickelless, FYI, you only volunteer after training IF you want to. YOU put your name on the list. also, you could take courses through the AMERICAN RED CROSS, instead. OR, if you want to, one person takes the course. goes up to the fire fighters and says, is it ok if i videotape the course? i would like to take it back to my people to further their training. |

| since this last post i did a follow up training through my hometown CERT. it is their quarterly follow-up training. i took pictures and video. we were given starter supply for first aid kits. my town really wants their people to be prepared in the event of an emergency!!! |
