I'd like first dibs on any heirloom seeds you plan to sell. But as far as harvesting seeds from this year's crop, don't they have to go through some kind of drying and other procedures before they're ready to be stored for planting at a later date? I don't yet have gardening space so I haven't had a chance to grow and re-grow anything. Here's what I bought last week:

For the moment, I'm keeping all my seed packets sealed up inside a mason jar--DO NOT USE OXYGEN ABSORBERS--and I'm storing them in a cool, dark, secure, undisclosed location with Dick Cheney (although Joe Biden could tell you where to find them). |

Yeah ive got what ive collected in the last few days drying now. i think im going to test some of them for germination before i store them. tomorrow ive got to figure out where im gonna try out a few tobacco plants lol alot of space is taken up by whats allready planted. your seeds should be fine unless dick takes them hunting...they should last for awhile before germination rates start to decline. |

I am growing okra, watermelon, and heirloom tomatoes.
Unfortunately some patches of soil won't grow anything, so I will only have half the okra I planned to pickle. |

Currently I grow tomatoes, bell peppers, kale, and cabbage. I also have blackberries growing and lemon balm, peppermint, patchulli, basil, and a few other lesser known herbs. I also let the dandelions grow- they make great garnish in salads. Thistle is also very good for you (high in Vit. C), grow the thistle, cut it, and boil it- yummy! |

I grow sweet corn and rare varieties of maple trees. Both are awesome plants. Frugi, whenever I get the chance I like to make some dandelion coffee. Dig up the roots, dry them in the oven, and mix 50/50 with regular coffee. Gives a great kick with all the trace vitamins and minerals in the dandelion, a long with the caffeine in the coffee. |

My grandmother lives next door to me so normally i talk to her alot about which seeds are best to save and how/when to collect them...i cant tell you how many times ive heard her talk of how her family used to make wine out of dandelion lol might have to save some seeds from them too whenever i see some. So far ive got 6 diff kinds of flowers seeds drying along with bell peppers and jalapeno peppers. I think theres two kinds of tomatoes i might save a few seeds from them but i think im just going to look for a diff kind to start planting/seed saving for next year. Got alot of concord grapes coming along i think im going to save their seeds as well and put some more plants in down the fencelines. Many herbs growing the only seeds i have saved from them so far is the dill tho...More to come lol |

Dandelions are an excellent source of vitamin A. Even better than carrots. I have never tried it, but I have seen dandelion jelly.

I've got a couple tobacco plants growing, one is five feet tall now. Keep in mind that it takes approx. 2 plants to produce 1 carton of cigs., and they are BIG plants.
You probably want to save your tobacco seeds (or most of them anyway) for next year. From all I've read they are very particular about when they are planted. I have read articles about some people growing it year round in greenhouses or under grow lights indoors, even in Canada and the UK, which are typically considered to cold for tobacco.
I've put this year down as a learning year. Next year I'll be growing enough for myself and for barter.
Here are some good links:

Other than the cancer stick filler, I'm growing tomatoes, bell peppers, bush limas and some onion. Again, this is a learning season for me. One thing that I've learned is the chicken manure will make your garden literally EXPLODE out of the ground!

I grow everything- corn, peas, beans, etc. on a few acres but tomatoes are in a special bed. I have a method where I can get 4 plants to produce 50 lbs.+ apiece. Same with peppers. We do a lot of canning & freezing.

Looks like some kind of nuclear waste. Just a guess though. |
