A cent in 1982 would take two cents to buy the same thing today. (According to CPI Inflation Calculator) As you know, a copper 1982 cent is now worth a little over $.02 due to its metal value.

News is not so good for the nickel though. It would take a dime to buy what a nickel could back in 1982. It would take a nickel though to buy what a penny (face value not metal value) would in 1971!

Inflation sucks.
