Hello Fellow SILVER treasure hunters:
In June 2010, please post your finds right here.
HIGHLIGHTS OF May's SILVER SEARCHING:
It was a tough month in many respects: 55% of half boxes in the month of May were SKUNKs and only two half boxes had more than 40 SILVERs. May 2010 SILVER half production at 1585 was only marginally better than April. We are all longingly remembering the great January to March months that produced far more SILVERs with exceptional bags and boxes.
However, there were some positive highlights: UDEric found the most SILVER halves (313), edging out slickeast's 297 SILVER half captures. cecropia_moth found the most SILVER dimes (76), and zerocd (15) just beats cwgii (14) in War Nicks. Perhaps in June 2010, we will get some shock and awe.
Other highlights are as follows:
5/4 - slickeast finds a $1000 bag with 183 SILVERs - the most for the month of May 2010
5/4 - UDEric finds $100 of CWRs yield 5 Franklins, 20 1964's, and 23 40%ers
5/5 - UDEric's $110 CWRs yield 3 Franklins, 14 1964's, and 28 40%ers
5/8 - cecropia_moth finds 6 SILVER dimes in a $250 box of dimes - the most found this year.
5/11 - slickeast gets a $1000 bag with 73 SILVERs
5/18 - Dumpster Diver gets a $1000 bag of dimes and finds 12 SILVER Roosevelts, a Mercury, and 2 SILVER Canadians
5/19 - rosco finds the first Barber dime this year - 1907 along with 7 other SILVER dimes in a $500 bag
5/19 - Country gets his 41st solid 1994-P half box out of the last 45 and cancels his half orders at his source bank
5/24 - cwgii finds a solid SILVER CWR half roll - 9 1964's and 11 40%ers
5/26 - KCTCJO finds the most number of SILVERs in a half box this month with 55 - 1 Franklin, 9 1964's, and 45 40%ers.
5/27 - 12kHz finds another great box with 46 SILVERs - 1902 Barber, 12 Walking Liberties, 9 Franklins, 4 1964's, and 20 40%ers.
5/27 - Hirbonzig finds 6 SILVER dimes in a $250 box of dimes - the most found this year.
5/27 - cwgii finds a solid roll of 90% halves - all Franklins, which for some reason were all marked.
5/29 - Jefferson finds $100 of 2010-D dime rolls (scarcer than the 2010-P's with only 40M minted this year)
5/29 - Country finds 171 2010-P dimes in 4 boxes of dimes
5/31 - cecropia_moth reports findings for the month in dimes and blows away the competition with 76 SILVER dimes, including 12 Mercuries, and 4 SILVER Canadians
5/31 - EL CENTAVO reports findings for the month and becomes the leader in half proof coins found for the month.
It's important to post your SKUNKS as well as your great SILVER finds. That keeps the statistics honest. I'll try to post some graphs of our SILVER finds as 2010 proceeds along by adding data to this initial post. I'll see if I can post some interesting insights into the data here in this initial post for 2010 too. Even though this is a national tabulation of all our finds, I think its fun to know what finds are being made and at what frequentcy.
It might be interesting to see how many Barbers, Walkers, Franklins, and 90% Kennedys are found too. Also, how many Barbers and Mercurys dimes we find. I'll try to keep track of all of these.

The number of SILVER halves found in each box. The total SILVER count for each box is either the actual reported SILVERs, $1000 bag SILVERs divided by two, and a few SILVER counts that were extrapolated from multiple box reports that did not delinate how many SILVERs were in each box. The chart shows the number of SILVERs on the horizontal axis and the number of boxes for that count on the vertical axis. Outliers that were not included to make the chart reasonable in size were Slickeast's 183 and 229 SILVER $1000 bags, JJM's 397 $620 vault bag, zerocd's 132 box, UDEric's 78 box, AmalekiDad's 92 box, and 12kHz's wonderful 131, 155, 161, 235, 287 and 311 SILVER boxes.

1 Kennedy 90% SILVER half - '64
This 1964 was a very dark coin that looked like an old clad. The teller let me see each one as she layed all four halves out on the counter. I didn't see that the dark coin was a 90% SILVER 1964 until I looked at it close up. Always take all the halves offered to you every time. Nice way to start the month.  |

I did get a Swedish 10 Kronor from 1991 while searching nickels. It's thick and has alternate reeding on the edges and it's made out of "nordic gold", even though it doesn't actually have any gold in it. Face value for it is about $1.30! |
