I recently found a old charm (10k) and it doesn't weigh much 2.7g but was wondering what would a scrap gold dealer pay for it? Just a ballpark so I don't sell to cheap?

10/24 = 41.67% gold
.4167 x 2.7 gr = 1.125 grams of gold

31.1035 grams per troy ounce
spot price of gold / 31.1035 = price of 1 gram of gold
$937.70 / 31.1035 = $30.15

1.125 x $30.15 = $33.92 gold value of the 10K ring

A fair offer would be no less than 66% of the gold value, or $22.61

You'll be able to sell it on feeBay for a higher price, but consider 12% eBay commission on the final value, plus .15 listing fee, plus .30 PayPal flat fee, plus 2.9% transaction commission for PayPal.

Your best bet might be to sell it here on realcent

Yes.

A troy ounce is a unit of measurement. You could be weighing a sack of potatos and a troy ounce will still equal 31.1035 grams.

FYI:
The "ounce" that we are all used to using, is called an "avoirdupois ounce" It is different from a "troy ounce." 16 avoirdupois ounces per pound, and 1 avoirdupois ounce = 28.3495 grams, whereas a troy ounce is slightly heavier.

Is a "gram" a gram whether it is troy or Avoirdupois?

Yes, a gram is always 1/1000 of a kilogram, which is always 2.2046 pounds (35.274 avoirdupois ounces, I think--been a while since I've used those figures).

Phildogg, since you're obviously one of the brilliant people since you're on Realcent , why not just keep the gold for now--unless you want to trade for silver?

I actually just sold some today, I got $10 a gram for 14 kt and $6.70 for 10kt. I normally don't sell my gold (what little I have) but sometimes you need what you need.

Are you throwing that out?
