Haven't thrown a coin up for sometime, but I thought I would since I am getting a little better taking pics... Well maybe better. :)
Anyways, this is my favorite dime in my small collection and I thought I would share...

Beautiful Coin !
From these photos, it looks like an MS-63 to me. Sometimes you need to see the coin in person to make an accurate judgment of the grade. |

Very nice coin I give it an MS-60. I tend to be judgemental though... |

Very nice coin!
I say you send it in to PCGS. It most surely will be graded MS, but 60 or 63 is the question. The toning adds a lot of eye appeal.
Where and when did you get this? |

Bought this from a local dealer about 5 months ago... I agree the toning really adds appeal I just wish I could capture it with my cheap camera. The coin has a ton of luster.
BTW, I paid $35.00 for it... :)

Hate to be a wet blanket, but I opt for EF45 Cleaned or Whizzed. Lots of hairline scratches and a couple of unnatural digs that I can see to the right of Ms Liberty.
My Dad always said I had "Know Common Cents," so you be the judge and PCGS/NGC will be the jury. I probably don't Know Common Dimes either.
Great Forum topic, though. Keep 'em coming.
Nice looking coin, though. |
Here in Wisconsin, we have some of the highest property and gasoline taxes in the US. We're squeezed so much, I have to make my daughter wear penny boxes for shoes. At least she has an endless supply. |

I was thinking possibly altered as well. Still a very nice coin that could go near MS level though.
As such, I would send it to ANACS instead of PCGS/NGC as they will "Net grade it" if it is altered. PCGS will just stick it in a "Genuine" holder and that will get you less in the market than a net grade via ANACS. |

Thanks for your comments... I won't be sending it in. I don't plan on selling it so paying for someone to grade it really isnt worth it too me...
I just enjoy this coin, this forum and thought I would share.... Thanks all...
In my opinion... Its an EF that may have been cleaned (in hand toning and luster looks very natural to me) a long time ago. I don't think its whizzed though (scratches are too random IMO). Pics can sometimes not give a real good clear pic, especially the cheap camera I am using. |

I agree on not sending it in for grading. Why waste more money, have it placed in a plastic thing and if not selling, who cares. If not placing in an Album, if I were you I'd remove the staples and tape the edges with clear tape to seal completely from the air. As to a grade, I'd go with the MS grading. Not exactly sure of -60 to -63 but still a MS. As to cleaning. Almost all coins way back in the old days had some type of cleaning. It was common to just clean your change with spit, water, baking soda paste, etc. Many didn't want dirty coins in thier pockets or purses. For a coin that old you would expect it to have some minor marks. Still I'd keep it as a MS and not worry about others that say less. It's your coin, enjoy. |
