Anyone who opposes nuclear energy is clearly an idiot.
Sometime in the future, we'll need to make synthetic fuel. One way of doing this is to promote the reverse reaction of a combustion of a hydrocarbon by applying extreme temperatures and pressures to the products, water and CO2 (le chatelier's principle). However, in order to do this effectively, we'll need nuclear reactors. |

Pickens is more a less giving up on his plan for wind power. The problem is the cost and accessibility of the transmission lines.

Nuclear power is very efficient and I think that is one direction America can go for power generation in the future. I think it's time to take another look at reducing the regulations keeping nuclear power plants from being built. If France can maximize their usage, we Americans can also. NIMBY (not in my back yard) is another problem that needs to solved. Do you want nuclear power? Where you gonna built them plants, and who will decide? Waste disposal is another problem. There are problems with nuclear power generation, but I think they will be mitigated once huge building programs, with their consequent job creation, are underway. |

The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life. – Theodore Roosevelt

I've lived 25 years now with them in my backyard. One in NJ and now in PA. There's another in NJ I could see from Wilmington. Nothing wrong with them. Practical and efficient, and a lot safer than many people think. (I have friends who work at one) For reference, there's a whole technology difference between ours and the one in Russia that melted down a few years ago. The NIMBY thing is the same for wind power. I understand unnamed politicos nixed them in MA because it would spoil the view. |

Yeah, nobody wants the windmills to block their view of the sky after the lights go out because they didn't want windmills in the first place. |

Absolutely, but greenies hate nukes just slightly less than they hate coal, petroleum, and hydro...
Remember LILCO's spanking new nuke plant, "Seabrook" or something, ready to initiate startup procedures to go online, that NY state bought and DEMOLISHED? Hey, it's only taxpayer money. Gotta keep NYC happy.
NY state also passed a law within the last decade that prohibits importation of power from any NEW hydro plants (ie, Canada)
France makes around 80% of its electricity from nukes. Not surprisingly, it's the only county that met its Kyoto accord quota. France also reprocesses spent fuel, something our Second Worst President, Jimmy F'n Carter, nixed back in the 1970's to doom our nuclear industry. |
