I was reading the "survival guide" posted by Nickless, which was interesting but a bit over the top.
Anyway it got me thinking about the FEMA camps and the argument concerning their existence. I haven't seen any substantial proof that they exist, and they probably don't. . . at least right now. My point is the Government doesn't have any official FEMA camps because it doesn't need to. The Federal Government owns or has an interest in tens of thousands of square miles of land. So if the dollar collapses and society follows close behind, any patch of land, military base or even college/university campus can be converted into a FEMA camp with in a few days to a few weeks.
I'm not even convinced that these FEMA camps will be overtly sinister, at least not at the beginning. Put yourself in the Government's shoes for a moment. It is a week after the dollar has collapsed and you have millions of starving citizens rioting in the streets, mostly in and around the large cities. Are you going sit back and allow the large population centers of the nation descend into anarchy? Of course not! You are going to shepherd these people to a place where they can be helped and (more importantly) controlled. Many people will go willingly to these "refugee centers" where there is the promise of food and safety. But then they may learn, first hand, the old adage about trading freedom for security.

Are you talking about Katrina? I'm not aware of reports of people being forced out of their homes and into the stadium. It was my understanding that they had to leave their homes because they were being flooded out. Can you post a link?
I simply don't see a house to house search for tens of millions of private fire arms as a realistic possibility. Now I'm not saying that the Feds will show a lot respect for the second amendment as we are likely to see tighter restrictions against buying guns and ammo. They could also make carrying a fire arm in public completely illegal, although as things deteriorate, they may have trouble enforcing such a law.

Just curious, Kurr, do you know of any sites that have personal stories of people who were prepared but who were forced by the jackboots to leave their houses, even in areas that were dry?
it happens all the time when there is a threat of a hurricane. then, the "authorities" prevent you from returning to your property. |
