I don't know if it'll happen this fall, but something has got to give in the next six months or so . . .
--Dollar's been going down for the past couple of months
--Talk of "a basketful of currencies" taking the place of the USD as the world's reserve currency
--European countries asking for their physical holdings in Ft. Knox
--China's skepticism about the health of the dollar
--Continued increases in unemployment
--State and local governments on the brink of insolvency
I think the rest of the world is waiting to see if Geithner and Bernanke can turn things around. The logical answer is "of course not", but I think that governments the world over can't help but think that the whole situation is just some bad dream. Once they snap out of it, that's when I think that gold will rise. |
