Has anybody come across one of their banks trying to charge a fee for a box of coin?

Since starting, I've gotten 2 boxes of pennies from my life-long bank.. different branches, and tellers, but then i went back for another recently to the 2nd branch and a different teller suddenly told me there was a $10 fee on a $25 box of pennies. She told me that there is no fee however if you have a business account.

Oddly, i had never been told that from the other tellers... in fact, the first branch where i got my IH on my first day of sorting even had ordered me a box and i had gotten it without a problem a few days later.

Also, are you getting charged at your dump bank? I guess 3% seems to be standard around here.

I don't ever accept charges for buying pennies or selling pennies. If your bank tries to force them on you say that you wish you close your accounts immediately and find another bank. Not all of the banks will be charging fees.

I guess i better start making phone calls to find out who can process loose coin without a fee..

Does your dump bank have a self-processing sorter in the lobby or are you taking it to the teller? the two banks i have currently, one has all the processing done by teller (my pickup bank) and my secondary bank (to which i have yet to dump to) has a machine in the lobby..

both are 3%

That 3% sucks. I use the macines in the lobby. No fee for members. I have 10-12 banks that have machines in the lobby that are free to members.

Same here. Just move on.

I never pay a fee.. and I pick up a lot of coins and dump a lot of coins. Just today one of my dump banks told me they need me to bring in more boxes of pennies.

If your bank wants to charge fees, just take the advice of Nancy Reagan.. "Just say NO!"

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

I haven't payed a fee yet in my area. However, I went into one bank branch near Richmond where they charged 2% to dump large quantities of coins. My local dump branches do not charge me to dump. I think the policy for getting boxes and dumping coins is up the individual bank branch managers.

Some branches buy coins by the box and will charge you a fee. Others pay a flat fee for unlimited delivery and usually won't charge you a fee. Avoid the former.
