I went to order a pizza today and saw that the store had a big wad of 'take one, leave one' pennies by the register. While waiting for my order, I thumbed through the coins and dug out 5 coppers. The lady was looking at me kind of funny until I told her I 'collected' coins. I left a new $.05 for the 5 coppers I 'liberated'.
Do any of you ever do this?

| I was at a local convenience store one morning and on the counter was a glass jar for donating money to some children's fund. Inside the jar were two rolls of pennies. Well I just had to have them and gave the lady behind the counter two dollars for the two rolls. |

| I don't touch the penny dish, just look at it. I have not come across a wheat penny yet in one of those dishes but if I did, I would liberate it and leave some extra coins for it. |

I usually don't as its too much of a ruckus for a couple of copper pennies. However today at Subway, I noticed two pre-1981 Canadian coppers in their change dish which I asked for, saying I collect foriegn coins. The clerk gave them to me no problem.
I still won't go after coin dishes in general but like Pennyworth, I would also make an exception for wheats. |

| Yeah I do it too. At first I was kind of sheepish about it, but when I told them I collected, and would leave something equivalent in return, then it's not a problem. I have found wheat cents here and there that way. |
My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.
