I have some (2000 oz.) silver bullion that I bought in the USA and I want to transport it to Ecuador. Does anyone know of any US government agencies that might have a problem with this or maybe what docomeentation is necessary---Why does the(preview) keep spelling docomeentation wrong?

From what I recall, there are no restrictions taking silver bullion out of the country. Do you see any problem taking it into Ecuador?

Just make sure you don't have a any U.S. nickels or pennies on you though.

You can't get 137 pounds of Silver through the metal detector undetected.

Have you contacted the customs deptartments of both nations?
The USA customs department is now a part of Ubberland Insecurity.

This site is hosted in such a way that it can be accessible to people who have strict filters in place, such as elementary schools and libraries.
It will not allow you to spell certain combinations of letters that refer to bodily fluids and other vulger items.
It may seem like a high price to pay, but it represents, in my opinion an attempt at sanity somewhere between active censorship and Laissez-faire.

I wish it would just help me spell Laissez-faire, but I guess it is too busy.

On April 24th, 2007, Dennis Kucinich submitted articles of Impeachment against Dick Cheney.
I think it is called House Resolution 333.

My response was to immediately send him a monetary contribution.
Actions speak louder than words.

If you agree that someone should Impeach Dick Cheney, then please show the world and future historians that you think so.
Send him whatever makes sense for you.

I'm sure that if you sent him at least $5 they would come out ahead after processing the transaction.
What matters is that we support those who do the right thing.

to see if there are rules or regulations to moving precious metals out of the country AND see if Ecuador has any special rules for importing silver (It wouldn't be worth the effort to ship legal silver only to get it confiscated for not having the correct paperwork. Red tape is a pain in any country.)

I should have chosen "Cut-n-Paste" as a forum name, since that is what I do, mostly.

Good Question. The only thing I'm sure of is that I should be able to prove that I am The owner. I have been to the Ecuador Embassy web site but I didn't see anything on the subject. I don't think They will have a problem with bullion coming in but I want to be sure. Thats why I posted the questions.------ I know customs controls that which comes into the country but do they control that which goes out? and just for information's sake Ecuador uses American currency so there is no currency exchange. They LOVE our money!!!

Wow you guys are quick. I got two more responses while I wrote mine to Ardent Listener.
OK, First, Atheist, you are on the money about the metal detector that is why I am researching this subject. Also that much $ilver is worth quite a bit and I don't need any problems over it( confiscation). Also, it may be good to have such a filter for those who are impressionable but some words like those that are being filtered do not need filtering. The filter needs work. Anyway, I can accept that a filter no matter how flawed may be necessary so that so that the very young and the easily offended are not kept from using this forum.
--- And pencilvanian, I have been there but it may be I didn't spend enough time there because I didn't see anything that I thought would help me with my problem. I will try it again. Maybe try the "contact us" feature.

Unfortunately, whether or not you believe that 911 was an inside job,
You must be logged in to see this link.
The unfortunate truth is that hte State dept is NOT in control of the issue under discussion here.
The power that matters, or as it is so often refered to in legaleze, "the authority having jurisdiction"
is in this case, the department of Ubberland Insecurity.

Ubberland Insecurity will decide somewhat arbitrarily, what the fate of your silver is.
As with all fascists, they are open to bribery.
But, and there is always a but,
they will want more than you have to let your silver pass through.
If you were rich and you were talking about 2000 ounces of gold, you'd stand a chance against those gangsters, but 2000 ounces of silver?

They could throw you in Guantanamo or WORSE for that.
They could spit on you and laugh at you and put a hood over your head.
They would NOT do that if you had 2000 ounces of gold.
I'm cynical, eh?

I think that your best bet is to sell your silver stateside for Federal Reserve Notes, then wire the money to Eqwador via bank to bank transfer, then buy silver in Eqwador with your "dollars".

This seems to me cheaper, and I know for a fact is is certainly safer and more moral than trying to, "get it past" the authorities having jurisdiction".

I'm hearing that it is not always so easy to find silver bullion in some other countries. That was not something I ever considered before.

I suggest that you figure out your address there beforehand (call ahead for a PO box) and then break up yr silver into 20 small lots and mail them all (insured) to that address. Mark them as gifts to avoid import taxes. Insure for 2-4 times melt value. Send them just before you leave.

Or, put it in two heavy duty suitcases and carry it on board with you. Airport security has never stopped me (traveling with ~500oz in a pelican gun case), just said "oh, wow" and you dom't go through US customs on your way out. The customs agents going in may need a bribe, tho.

Ha, I only wish I had problems like this. Breaking it up and mailing it makes sense for a lot of reasons, but it's got to be hard to let it out of your sight like that. If you go with this option it might be a good idea not to put them all in packaging that looks the same, because if somebody finds out what's in one they'll look out for similar packages too.

Thanks for all the good input!!! I never intended to try to pull the wool over any eyes. I was looking for the legal way to do it. That is to courier it myself.I really dont like the idea of letting it out of my sight. As a last resort I might have to sell it. and try to buy more there.-----the department of Ubberland Insecurity----- Im guessing this is homeland security spelled with a touch of animosity.

Were you able to get the silver to Ecuador? If so what did you end up doing to get it there?

doesn't help with silver but i've taken 3.5 ounces of gold thru an airport metal detector without setting it off

also taken smaller amounts thru other airport detectors. not sure what the max would be

another idea might be mixing gold in with a lot of change so it draws less attention.
