I have been hand sorting pennies since I was a teen so from late 60s. Not all the time, but usually whenever go to bank for whatever reason will pickup some penny rolls or sometimes a box.
I found my first wild indian just about a year ago or so, and since then found a 2nd one. But this weekend when looking for wheats as usual, I found a nice shiny new looking wheatback. I turned it over and its a 1955 with a mint mark. I put on my reading glasses and it was a 1955-S. Its at worst in nice AU condition. Maybe you guys find alot of them, but it shocked me. I do not remember ever even finding a 55-S before, no less one in this condition.
Also found a Ben Franklin Memorial souvenir penny size coin which I never saw before.

Congrats on your find!
I've only found one 55'-S as well early on in my sorting hobby, and mine is probably AU as well with some brilliant shine to it. I barely find any S-mints at all being on the east coast, so combine a shinny wheat with an S-mint, and you have a great find! 1955 was the last year they made S-mints for wheats, so I imagine some where hoarded. |

Not sure I've found any more than 1 of them. Found 4 wild indians though. |

I've found one AU '55 S. The reverse was facing up, and it was just beautiful. No dice on the DDO though. |

Nice find SmallCHange. I run across them occasionally and put them away. |

While it's not a high-dollar coin, it obviously entered circulation by mistake or foul play. That was the first coin I ever purchased, so that's a sentimental coin for me. I've only ever found 1 in circulation. I think everything in 1955 was hoarded. |
