***** 87's are tougher to come by than Walkers. I got lucky and found 61 in one box. I have no idea why there were so many in that box. I had a couple rolls from years past but they were one or two here and there, not in bunches. *****
Sounds like you were the fortunate recipient of a treasure someone else did not know they had. I bet that sheeple went to bank and dumped a bunch of 87s without realizing those had never been circulated. Some people, or sheeple, never cease to surprise me. |

$140 from my main "other than pennies" bank
This has left a bad taste in my mouth. I was hoping to get at least a 40% because this week I am fasting from pennies.....I just need the break. |

Don't give up on the halves fellas. Got a great phone call from a buddy of mine last night that does a lot more halves than I do. He picked up a box of halves he ordered from the bank yesterday. He said the first 30 rolls he sorted were the normal cute creature pictured above that we are all used to. The next roll had a darker colored half in it. He almost couldn't believe it when he looked at it. It was a nice original 1854 Seated Liberty half dollar in AU! He said he had to call me to tell somebody that could properly appreciate what he had found. When he showed the coin to his wife she just said "That's nice honey" So you just never know.. that next roll of halves just might be the one with something special in it. |

I got a barber one day. 1912. I was traveling west on the state highway and stopped at 3-4 banks. Apparently someone else was travelling east on the same road and beat me to every bank. I was not a happy camper. I stopped at the last bank. One that I could always count on to have fed wrapped halves. They were cleaned out too. However, one of the tellers on the end said I have one. I looked at it and it was a barber.
Of course I bought it. The other guy may have gotten most of the halves, but I have no doubt that I got the best one. |

BTW as is sit here checking out the posts, I am taking my weekly skunking. I got $1000 face today. I ordered $2000, but the bank said that they were only able to get $1000 thois week.
Box one down. One 40% and 2-2004. This is really low for me. I hope that box 2 is better. If it isn't, no big deal I will try again next week. |

I think I'll up my sorting ammount. Got the rest of a $200 order my main bank usually places. SKUNKAGE! The vault teller is cool and said that she would order $500 for next week.
I also did some drivebys for non pennies and got $100 in quearters and $100 in dimes. Nothing in either. I know the % of silver is really low but I thought I would break up my penny routine. |

That's amazing. After all these years, Barber halves are still out there. |

WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOEEEEEEE! So after a few hundred worth of skunking I hit the biggest silver lot to date. I picked up $90 in halves along with $20 in CWR dimes at my main "other coins" bank today. I also stopped at a branch of RBC (whith who I just opened an account a week ago) that I had not been to before. I got some pennies there and they happened to have $100 in halves, CWR halves to boot. Not sure if the bank rolled these but my findings incline me to believe that these were someones grandpa's. I got 3 solid rolls of 40% and 1 roll of 19 40%! Another roll yielded 6 90% (all kennedies) The $90 from my main bank gave up 3 40% also. Total: 86 40% and 6 90% kennedy halves. And in the $20 in dimes I got 1 1952 rosie. Today was a good day. :D
Now begins the next batch of skunkings that I am used to. ;) |

Sorry about the late post, but it was real sweet finding the Barber half. Especially after not even being able to buy halves at the other banks. |

I always roll my bicentennial halves together. I am hoping someone buys those rolls and keeps them. Trying to reduce the clad % to up the silver % :).
