I took down a load of scrap metal with my father in-law. The guy at the scale kept looking at the brass pool pump parts, he brings them down all the time with no problem. When he went to cash out the guy told him that it was dirty brass. This brass had no other metal on it! And was not that dirty. He got 30 cents a pound for it. Time to look for another yard I guess. Any idea what would be dirty brass?
It looks like that yard is looking to make a couple extra bucks off you. Dirty brass in my neck of the woods means it is contaminated with other material, mainly steel. One scrap yard will actually knock off 20% if you bring in scrap that is dirty with mud, etc.
But it seems that your stuff fits neither explaination above, so you might want to find a better yard thats on the line.
Did the inside of the parts have plastic or dirt in them? Maybe an excess build up of calcium and debris? I've never had this happen with brass, but I have had issues with aluminum gutters, etc. A buildup of dirt in gutters caused me to get docked several times.
No it was all clean. I think that they were just trying to make extra off my father in-law
Yep. You need a new yard.
