I went to a local antique shop this morning and found two barber halves for $12 and $13 each. One is a 1908-D and the other is an 1897 both in G-4 condition. Not bad for a few minutes of work if you ask me!

I enjoy taking long walks off short piers.

Antique shops can be good and bad. My experience is that most of the time, they are overpriced compared to what you can get for them here, or even in your dealer bargain bin. But, if silver moves up quickly and by a decent amount, alot of times you can get stuff below melt because the dealers arent there to mark up the coins right away as the spot price increases.

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

yeah, you paid exactly red book, which is how the antique store probably valued them. Lesson learned. If you dont know what the fair value is of what you're buying, find out before purchasing. ;)

Hi there-

I love coin shops- Luckily, there's one I go to that's run by this crazy middle aged guy who I think is pretty jaded with the whole coin business- he sells pretty close to spot, and doesn't adjust his prices too frequently, so...

wags

Only when they CAN'T have it, ......THEN they'll want it.

I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win.

I will post on here next time. There are no coin shops within miles of where I live and this antique shop is always out of silver. It is rare for him to ever have any coins because people keep snapping them up. I just thought it was neat because I never have owned any Barber Halves before.

I like barber coins as well. If you like them and are happy with them than you got a good deal.

At Christmas my wife bought me some coins. She over paid, however, I did not tell her. She was happy to give me something I like and I was happy to have something that I like instead of something that I did not need or want.
