Hey everyone. I am intrigued by all the success stories surrounding the Ryedale in the world of copper sorting.
Has anyone created a machine like a Ryedale that sorts clad vs silver dimes? If so, are they home-made or is there a vendor similar to Ryedale that I can order from online. I do a lot of dimes by hand and at this point, would pay quite a bit to have a proven workable sorter that worked on dimes.
Thanks everyone!

| Hopefully Ryedale himself will chime in here. In theory, it seems to me that it is something that should be makeable, or even having the Ryedale converted to sort these. My understanding is that the Ryedale uses a coin comparitor, and compares the electro-magnetic signature of coins to a base coin. It would have to be re-tooled to fit dimes I would imagine, but I would think this is something that can be done, and could be a good seller. |

actually the ryedale can do this. but there is an issue....and a big issue at that. is that the dimes are so thin that they can and will try to double up under the wheel. try it. put a dime in the comparitor and run 10 dollars worth of dime through with a few silvers mixed in.
it worked for me but I only did it once with about 10 dimes.
ryedale will need to chime in like CH said.
I have talked to ryedale about this but will let him explain the issues involved with this procedure.
anyways....welcome....we love new questions and new stories of your coin hunting adventures. |

| Welcome to the forum. Like notabigdeal I am curious to what your percentages are. The only way I know how to sort dimes it by looking at the dates or looking at the rims. Dimes are harder to just look at the rimes though because if a dime is dirty it can look silver and non silver |

| Personally my eyes arent good enough to hand sort a box of dimes and look at all those little dates. I have enough trouble with pennies. |

I've used my Ryedale to sort out Ni Dimes from Steel Dimes. The feed wheel at the top is not designed for dimes, and tends to jam up. Instead I just manually drop the dimes into the slide.
There are high priced units that will sort dimes and quarters - some of our members have them. But you need to be doing serious volume in coin, preferably for your business, to justify that. |

| Forget dimes and work on halves there are alot of 65 thru 69 halves that are worth twice as much as a dime and your pre 65s are 5 times greater i look at buying a bag of halves like playing a scratch off lotto ticket without any risk |

Hi everyone thank you for the warm welcome
I do halves by hand and its not a chore at all :) but it feels like the dimes are a chore. I face-search because as one poster mentioned it is true dirty dimes are tough to figure out if they are clad or not. So that is why it gets tedious...and why the lightbulb went off, I would gladly pay for a machine that does dimes
I average about a dime and a half of silver per box or ~6 per $1000 searched so its why I need to "scale up", another reason for a machine...
Having done pennies by hand for about 6 years now, and having just heard of this ryedale I think I will becoming a customer real soon. I will ask if there is any possibility of a dime model in the future.
Once again thanks for the welcome everyone!! |

| Welcome - I can't imagine doing dimes by hand. I have only found one silver dime in circulation my whole life and only two quarters. Its been over 40 years since the switch, so its hard to believe they are even still out there. |
