If you're going from a "melt perspective", .999 is the best, then 90% coinage, lastly .925 sterling.
Sterling tends to sell at a discount compared to the other two. The reason is that for 90% coinage, the refiners KNOW the metal content of the 10% that's not silver. For sterling, no one knows the content of the other 7.5% non-silver (generally, it's copper, but really could be anything). Then there's the issues of marked sterling fakes.There usually is no question as to 90% silver authenticity. |
