Living in Canada and looking to buy silver can be sometimes challenging. I checked with apmex and tulving but they will not deliver silver in Canada, on the other hand when buying silver from ebay you will pay some hefty shipping cost.

If you are in Canada and would like to buy silver you can try ScotiaBank; Here is the link of the bank, if you need to find a location near you use(You must be logged in to see this link.)
or the link of their products use (You must be logged in to see this link.)

What prices do they carry today for their products(Silver spot was US$12.25/ounce when I got the prices)?
the price for bars is US$14.50/ounce
1 oz bar .. US$14.50
10 oz bar .. US$145.00
100 oz bar .. US$1450.00
SML(Silver Maple Leaf) .. US16.50/each+8%sale tax.

If you buy bars you do not have to pay 8% sale tax, but if you buy SML you have to pay it.

It's easier if you pay in US$(since there is no exchange rate).
If you buy any product that has sale tax you will be charged the sales tax in CAD$(you can pay the silver in US$ and the tax in CAD$, if you pay the whole amount in US$ or CAD$, you will be paying the exchange rate).

Each order has a minimum US$5 transaction fee(I think if you buy over the 1000oz this fee will go up)

You need two pieces of ID.

What location can you buy from?
You can buy from HEAD office this way you pay no delivery fees(use the link that I provided to find full list of locations near you)
Buying from a small location involves the delivery fees(I think they will use armored service to deliver your package from HEAD office to the location that you paid from).

Load up while the prices are down.

I hope I did not miss anything.

Thanks for the good info post. It fits with my own research. Taxes quoted are in Ontario I presume, and will be differant in the differant provinces. Buying from head office only works in Toronto, not for us forgotten souls outside the big TO.

Scotabank premiums are high and so are the fees. Instead, I've bought quite a bit through this forum. Ebay has also been a good source for me. Most larger coin dealers also carry silver of some sort. Check your local area. I've bought from J&M in Vancouver (Maples).

Yes, I have ordered from them online. Service was good, no cross-border hassles involved, reasonable delivery costs and turnaround. Options north of the border are slim, and there's not much to complain about as far as First Majestic is concerned, so I look forward to ordering from them again.

Just curious, jin.coy, why do you have to have ID to buy silver from ScotiaBank? That would worry me, at least being from the U.S.

Nickelless,

I do not have an account with ScotiaBank so they asked for two pieces of ID to fill up the sell forms(receipt).
Scotia bank will buy back any products boutgh from them in the past if you bring the original receipt.

I've never ordered from first majestic but heard good things about them from a online friend. He also said you can cancel your order w/o penalties. I prefer their encased proof coins but they were sold out last time I checked the site. Silver is silver but I'm not too fond of the designs.

Often you can ship items to a service located just over the CAD US border that you can just go pickup yourself for a small fee. For those in Vancouver look into Point Roberts which is just on the tip of Tswassassen and nothing more than a US fleck of land yet part of Washington state. The "letter carrier" is an example of this service.
