My first question to him would be "what do you have to have out of them?" then go from there.

Hi there-

Not a numismatist, mind you-

I think offering $200 would be totally fair- nothing looks too rare, although it's hard to tell how many quarters and dimes he has in the bags.

They all look real from what I can tell. Are the prices shown what he is asking for them?

I agree with Wags...$200 looks to be a fair deal based on what we can see in the pictures.

I can tell you that those prices are "dealer prices", and a lot more than I'd personally be willing to pay. Skimming the coins, there doesn't appear to be any rarities. So for the silver coins, at the very very most, you should be paying 12x face value. Even 10x face can be considered high right now, given the action of silver's price.

These are the coins I would buy. I dont have experinece with foreign coins. I would buy up all the silver roosevelt dimes for $1 each. The rest of the stuff is all overpriced.

I would stay away from the french coins unless you really know what they are worth and if you can sell them.

The U.S coins that you gave prices for 90% of them are higher than they should be.

Here are a few examples:
38. Quarter - Washington “S” 1943 $40 UNC Unless it grades higher than MS-63 its worth less than $25
40. Quarter - Washington “S” 1944 $52 UNC Unless it grades higher than MS-65 its worth less than $35
24. Ben Franklin half-dollar “D” 1959 $50 UNC Unless it grades MS-65 or higher its worth less than $20
50. Quarter - Washington 1956 $35 UNC Unless it grades MS-65 or higher its worth less than $10

Items 44-60 (not item 50) Should go for around $2.75 or less

Just my opinion from looking at numismedia.com and knowing the 90% market right now

I didnt look over everything on the list, but this one jumped off the page at me:

89. Nickels - Indian Head - 6 with date worn off $6 for all --

Buffalo Nickels without the date can be obtained for 25 to 35 cents each, and maybe even less. I have seen people ask $1/each for full date common Buffalo's and a little less for partial date common Buffalo's.

I'll try to look over the rest and see if anything else jumps out.

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

The best way to start is to figure out how much the bullion value is for the collection, and assign a small numismatic value for the non silver coins. For the french coins, I'd probably assess value at 80% of bullion because there is probably a smaller market for those coins in the US.

From there, you can assess what the "numismatic premium" on the entire collection is, and determine if it's worth paying that premium to you.

Do you like them?
That's the first question to ask yourself when you are going to pay a premium.
You might be looking at them for a long time if you pay above spot!

I'd defiantly try to negotiate the price a bit to your favor.
You do know that "cleaning" a valuable coin will destroy it's numismatic value, right?
If it "needs cleaned", that means it does not have much of a numismatic value to begin with.

There's profit if you melt things!!

I agree with Buyingsilver... most of those prices are way high. $25 for a 1922 Peace dollar in EF condition? That's about 50% over market value. So are the Mercury dimes. I'd pass.

And what the heck is:
82. Invincible Iron Man, Dime - Roosevelt (needs cleaning) 1954 $.50 VF

???

Considering Verizon Business service? Perhaps you'd like to consider a nice drain cleaner enema instead?

Looks overpriced at anything over 3-400 USD wholesale. Is this an individual seller or a dealer? Is s/he trying to unload this as a single lot, fast? Always counter-offer with a lower, fair offer you think would be acceptable if you were on the other side of the fence.

As far as I know, it is stated "In God We Trust" on the US dollar. How can I trust this currency if I do not believe in God?

Possession is nine-tenths of the law.
