Hello everybody new to this forum but have been sorting and hoarding for a few years; just wondering because I'm just getting into sorting boxes and bags but 4 out of the 6 brinks boxes I've sorted this week contained only 83 and above yrs. Is this normal or is brinks sorting through the boxes? Thanks for any replies!

| Welcome coinwolf....I agree with redneck. You are competing with someone else in your area. See if you can find out if any banks in your area are serviced by Loomis or another armored car carrier and maybe your luck will change. |

| That hasn't happened to me yet, but I'm sure it will. I know this isn't very efficient, but occasionally see if you can get rolls from the tellers' drawers. I seem to get higher percentages from those than from rolls out of a box. You probably already do this but try different banks. I've purchased coins (nickels/pennies) from no less than 15 different banks. It helps me to identify the banks that seem to have the most copper. Good luck. Its nice to have you. |

Good point and maybe even take it a step further by tracking on a spreadsheet which banks are giving you the best yields. It makes it much easier to see actual raw numbers on a spreadsheet than trying to guess which ones you think are giving you higher percentages. Whatever you do, dont give up or get discouraged. |

| It does sound like someones dumps. I buy boxes as well as customer wrapped rolls and I tend to find more wheats in the cwr than boxes. However, the boxes have been yielding a nice amount of copper cents. |

Hi coinwolf, and welcome!
I have stopped buying cents from a bank that deals with Brinks. I have had some odd experiences... one time it was 6 boxes- 2 were nearly 100% copper, and the other were nearly 100% zinc. Coincidence, I think not!
Then the second time, I got wise and used a nice big digital scale before I sorted. Of the $300, I only sorted a third which yielded about 20% copper. The other $200 went right back to the bank because they weighed anywhere from 14.1 to 14.3 pounds.
I found a new, non brinks bank, and my percentages have gone WAY up. I just sorted $300 and every box weighed in at over 15 pounds, yielding 30-35% copper.
I dumped today ( ) and when I cashed out I got $49 in CWR pennies from the teller. These yielded 50% copper!
Good luck finding a non-Brinks banks
Ironic how Brinks rhymes with zincs |

| thanks for the reply's guys. I do prefer customer wrapped rolls but they are getting a little hard to find around here in large quantities. I guess thats a down side to living in a very small town; once again thank all! |
