You have a better chance...maybe not odds...of finding by searching more. I found 3 silver halves out of 12 in a tellers tray once. I got 158 out of 2 boxes, and I have got 12 out of 16 CWR. And 19 out of a loose bag of $1000.00.
You never know where one might be hiding so look everywhere.

Without any sort of scientific method capable of replication, I'd say bags from coin counting machines at Credit Unions. Of course the Silver Santa has visited me (not as many times as I'd have liked) from drive by CWR's and ordering boxes, too. But I think loose bags from Credit Unions have been the most consistent if your looking at the odds. The bottom line is just sort more faster if you want to find Ag. |

| I've had more luck with getting random halfs at the bank. |
Are you throwing that out? |

Read the post about ordering halves. How much time and capital do you want to tie up? Do you travel in the daytime in your job? You can; 1) carry enough "buy money" and hit every bank on a daytrip, asking for halves, both in the teller line and the vault. They will ask how much you want, buy it all if you have enough cash. Don't explain why you want them and don't look at them till later. (Don't count your money while you're sit'n at the table) 2) ask vault tellers to order coin for you, they usually will order in increments of $1,000 (2 boxes) and want assurance that you will pick them up. You could pick up $500 at a time, depending on your "dump" bank availability. Don't make them sit on the coin very long, or say bye-bye to that source.
Ordering coin is a PIA for them, not part of "their job" and most like to be thanked for the extra effort..think of waitress and you get the picture. Tellers are people too. |
