So I was doing some figuring regarding converting my cans from collecting into silver.

cans go for 20 cents per pound where I live in VA

(roughly 0.66 cents per can)

Silver is at about $13 per ounce

Thus I need 1969 cans to buy one once of silver.

Gone are the days of last summer when i could by an once of silver for 1225 cans.

Alum. cans are 35 cents per pound here in Lubbock, TX. That is a little over a penny a can. I am in charge of the can recycling where i work, and we fill up a 50 gallon trash bag about every 10 days. I use this extra money to buy silver.

I like your way of thinking. I never looked at my bins of cans as being a potential ounce of silver. 20 cents here in MN right now as well. We had 80 cents for awhile this summer so you could have bought an ounce of silver with 493 pop cans if it were at $13 an oz like it is now. Granted when it was 80 cents for cans it was probably $20.00 an ounce for silver. I don't even bother to bring my cans in right now, I just crush them and pile them in and along side my garage in barrels.

Good deal guys. It ALL adds up. Be one ounce at a time or a thousand. And to think I throw mine away.... ::::tisk::::tisk::::

For the record, I would have to save my cans for years probably. I don't go through many cans. No beer and most pop I drink is fountain pop or glass bottles (IBC). It's not like I throw away hundreds of cans. Between my girlfriend and I we get maybe five cans a week on a "good" week.

I just took some in at .26 per lb. I'm supposed to take in more this weekend. I've been dragging my feet a bit since the price is down so much.

Are you throwing that out?

I personally like being the competition for the homeless. I live in DC and the homeless beg for money and drink beer and trow the cans in the area next to the Gerogre Washington parkway and the Iwo Jima Memorial. I collected a couple thousand from that one pile last year!

It inappropriate languagees me off that they are beggin for just beer, but also that they trash a national park!

This is actually what i have been planning for a couple of months. This as we all know it the time to hoard and hoard all we can. Problem is I am running out of space and having alot of aluminum laying around can invite theives. I have decided that all aluminum and stainless will be sold once i reach max capacity and the money used to buy silver. It is esentially turning some junk into silver. Its alchemy at its best.

Klava, sell your aluminum now while the price of silver is low. Silver could go up at any time. It went up about 60 cents today.

This gets me wondering. Hold onto your cans and turn 20 cents into 80 cents per pound. Or buy silver with the profit from selling cans for 20 cents per pound at $13.50 per ounce and turn it into? Well lets say this summer silver hits $27.00 an ounce, congrats you made a 100% return. But if aluminum goes back up to 80 cents a pound, you make a 400% return? Maybe we should be hunting for cans?

The price of alumimum cans has come down here too.. they are only paying $1.57 per pound. The homeless in our area make their living turning in cans and bottles.

If you crush them up really well, you can store quite a few half ton cubes of aluminum cans in a small space.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.
