Last week in my sorting I found a 1972 half that looks normal, typical wear also. The edges do have good ridges. It sounds "funny" or different than a normal clad half or a silver half. I just put batteries in my little scale, a normal clad half weighs in at 11.1-11.3 g on my scale, this half comes in at 10.3 g. Any thoughts as to what might make this coin different?
I will try and get scans posted on Friday.

Supposedly there have been Halves mistakenly struck on Susan B. blanks, maybe one got struck on a quarter blank? You may have a very unique error, take it to a coin shop and strike up a conversation. |

Check around the inside of the edges very closely.. you might find a seam. Sometimes folks machine the coins to create a hollow center for smuggling drugs and such. Such was very common in the old days with Trade dollars used to smuggle opium. Also check the alignment between the obverse and reverse. If they messed with it, they might not have gotten it alligned properly when they put it back together. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

I've got one too that is hollowed out. It is for magic tricks though and sold at magic supply houses. Difficult to take apart if that is what you have. There was a thing sold with them for that. Your supposed to use a smaller coin in one hand, that one taken apart in the other. Show people both hands and they see the half and the other coin, then put the smaller on in the half, close and presto, gone. Several versions of that trick out there. If not, possible counterfeit made with metals like Aluminum or aloys of that. If considerably worn I would have said from wear but you said not that much wear appears. As already noted check the edges carefully. |

| I am guessing it is hollow, similar to what is shown on this website You must be logged in to see this link. I am going to try and figure out how to get it apart without the special tool they supply. |

| Must be an old add. SD cards are well into the 2, 4, 8 and recently I've seen 16Gig cards. A one Gig card is well outdated now. |

| As has been mentioned, probably a magician's coin- I've come aross 5 or 6 while roll searching halves. One way to get it apart is to put it in a box (say an empty $25 penny box) and shake it around for a while. Otherwise, throwing it against a concrete floor always works, but leaves scuff marks on it. |

| If your coin is in fact one of those you may want to Google search for magic supply houses in your area. Visit one and ask them rather than ruining yours. |
