I found my first Barber dime today in a box of dimes, it was a 1912 in very fine condition. I have also found a Mercury dime and a few buffalo nickels, 2 Walking halves and 15 Franklin halves. What are your obsolete coin finds and what is the oldest coin you have found searching rolls? How many have found Barber coins(dimes, quarters or halves)or older?

I'm rather fond of the '09 VDB I found rolled in a box, that's my oldest wild find. The few Buff's I've found are nice. I got a Merc in change last year, I usually get 3 or so Roosevelts in change yearly. The Bens and Walking Liberty Halves I find while roll sorting are always exciting. I'm still waiting for the elusive Feathered Liberty. (I'm probably building my Native village to the wrong size, I'll have to up the next one to 1:32 scale.) I'd probably come close to a stroke if I ever found a Barber. |

| Hi there, sorry I'm not from the USA are those coins not legal tender anymore? I thought they were all still legal tender just most were pulled due to collectibility or silver value |

You are correct my friend from across the pond. All are currently legal tender and circulating.

The very first time I tried searching half dollars, I found a Barber (1897). I was pretty skeptical about searching before I actually tried it, but as you might imagine that experience swept away any doubts about whether there was still silver out there! |

Yeah, they are not legally obsolete, but youre a fool if you spend them instead of sell/save them. Are pre-decimal British coins still accepted over there? |

| No, they are obselete, we moved from imperial (pounds shillings and pence) to metric, pounds and pence (100/pound) I'm 1970/1 ish, the uk updates it's coins sometimes too, we have obsolete 5pence pieces that sometimes you get in change as they are the same size and the new 10p and we also have obsolete 10p 50p coins too. Those aren't worth anything they were just updated to make them smaller and more user friendly, same reason they introduced a £2 coin. Pre 1947 silver coins are mostly in people coin collections or hoards. They regularly appear on eBay for their silver value. |

| I pulled an obsolite 1942 Newfoundland Penny out of one of my copper bins. Pretty coin too - only about a million made and you have to wonder how it ended up on the other coast of Canada in my copper pile. Newfoundland only joined Canada in 1949 = prior it was a seperate british possession. |

The more I think about it, a Barber dime or quarter would be harder to find than a Barber half dollar with the quarter being the most difficult of the three. With halves not circulating, it would be more likly to find them in the wild.
Yes Computer Jones I did have a mini stroke when I found it. I had to look at it a few times to let it sink in that I did find one in a roll of dimes. I would most likly have a major stroke if I got one handed to me in change at the corner gas station! |

| I was sold a lot of old American silver that was supposed to be just 50s 60s silver dimes, but in the bottom of the bag were 3 barber dimes in very very good condition |

Hi there-
There's NO such thing as an obsolete silver coin!!! : D
I found THREE silver Canadian dimes in a $250 box today.-1944, 1967, 1968(silver).

Only when they CAN'T have it, ......THEN they'll want it.
I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win. |

| I found several gold plated state quarters about a year ago. Had to have been broken from a special order set, and most likely stolen. |
