Alright, so I have done two orders of two boxes of dimes each. The first time I found a few silvers, then took them back to the bank to get cashed in and came up $1.50 short. The next time was a complete silver skunk and the machine made it out to be $12.50 short. What do I do? I really want to keep doing dimes. I get them from one bank and they come in Brinks boxes rolled in clear plastic rolls. Should I only open up the rolls with silver and return the unopened rolls to my dump bank? What would happen if they would bust open the rolls and come up short because their machine sucks? Help me out here guys.

I bet they were counted as pennies. I frequently get dimes in my bags. Most are bent or damaged in some way, but others are not. My guess is this is what happened to you. I'd keep the rolls intact if possible. I don't put any dimes in any machines just for that reason.

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams |

Unfortunatly that is the nature of the beast with dimes. They occasionly get counted as pennies.
However, the numbers you're getting shorted is far from normal. I lose 1, sometimes 2 every few dumps. I lose more because of shorted rolls than to the coin counters.
Try a different counter, if that doesn't work, maybe consider re-rolling.

| I don't believe you are getting shorted by Brinks. Some of your dimes may be ending up in the internal reject of the coin counter. Talk to the tellers about the coin counter. If it continues, then take your coins elsewhere. You may have to reroll them for a different bank. |

I always take dimes to the best coin counters. I dont put them thru the cheap coin counters.
Take them to banks with the nice counter behind the tellers... I use US bank for the dimes. It works out better overall for me. |

I doubt you are getting shorted by brinks by that much! I could belive 1-3 dimes but more than that makes it seem like a bank issue. I would defintly have them recount it if it came up $12.50 short! I persoanly also felt that I got shorted on occasion when i was dumping halves. Thats one of the many reason I bought a coin counter.
If you dont want to spend the money on a counter than I would suggest counting the dimes and keeping them in rolls. Open a roll, look for silver, count it and put it aside. Its a lot more time consuming, BUT its better than getting shorted |

| Yes, with those numbers a half decent coin counter will pay for itself fast. |

What would I do with the coin counter? Count the coins, put them in a bag and say "This is X of dimes?" If so, then do I really need the coin counter? I trust Brinks, and I think that they should too. I should be able to say, "This is $500 in dimes," and have them take it. |

Yes you coin the coins so you can make sure the bank is NOT shorting you! I dump pennies every week and I count out $50 worth in a bag and bring them in. They know its $50 and I have been right on everytime, but they still count them. Its most banks policy to count the coins to verify that they dont get shorted. Doesnt matter if they see you every week or are new to dumping there.
The point is that you want to make sure you arent getting shorted. If you get shorted even $1 a week that can add up fast and kill profit! Think of it as throwing away a silver dime everytime you dump your dimes..... |

The only counter in my neck of the woods appears to count dimes a pennies rather often. I ALWAYS have a dime or two when I buy bags. The most off-coin penny bag I got from them had $1.80 in dimes. The total number of coins came up correct, it just seems that some of the pennies counted were those darn dimes. |
