Reading and come across Numismedia's FMV for 82p nickel. Why so much?

Actually all of 82, 83, and 84 seems high. They are not uncommon.

I know of nothing, but I'd sure like to know where to get those prices!

Not sure unless those years had weak strikes and maybe they are harder to find in the higher grades? The mintages arent anything siginificantly different than other years so it's not that.

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

no mint sets in 1982 or 1983 so high grade examples are harder to find... That goes for all coins in a mint set for those years

Inquiring minds want to know

I just checked my "coin market" price guide. It shows $12.50 for an MS-65 82-P and also $80 for an ms-65 Full Strike. Kind of supports Daviscfad's answer.

Dang!
Now I'm going to have to look at my nickels, if I can remember where they all are.

There's profit if you melt things!!

I've already been putting AU of those yrs in 2x2's for a few weeks now, will continue and hold onto them for 20yrs, see what happens. :)

It's funny thinking about it. Dealer asked me when I searched 1/2's if I saved AU 82 and 83's, now I understand why...
