I figured I'd through this topic up here because I was looking for Ag when I found this coin. It is a 1978 D dime, but there isn't any copper in it at all. Or at least not from the sides of it. The coin has amazing luster, so the sides being dirty is not a problem. I have looked under a magnifying glass all 360 degrees and the sides are nothing but silver-colored. It sounds like a regular dime though. Also, there is a strip of metal on the back, below the torch. I'd love to get some pictures up, but I am still clueless on how to work the new camera we got. So much for being one of those technologically-advanced high-schoolers. Anyway, any clues? Did the mint somehow forget to put in the copper? Is it worth anything? Thanks.

Weigh it. If it weighs different, then you have something.

Could it be proof with a D mintmark? I dropped it and flipped it, and it sure doesn't sound silver. And I don't have a scale. So I'm pretty much stuck.

It could just be chrome (or some other similar metal) plated.

Maybe it's one of those dimes they used mercury on to try to give it a mirror finish. Stop licking your fingers.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.
