The local antique shop has some canadian dollar from 1965 for sale. they aren't in bad shape. what should i pay for them?

Yep, Canada kept at 80% silver through 1967 for dollars and halves.

Ask him if he would take $9 each (Better to pay a little over spot than lose the deal.)
Who knows? Maybe they will sell them to you for $9, no harm in asking.

Near me an antiques dealer is selling Candaian Proof Sets for $15, but the silver dollars in the sets are 50% silver (it stated this in the paper that comes with each coin set.)

That is incorrect.

PL sets from 1967 and earlier are 80% silver and contain 1.1 troy oz. of silver net.

$15 is a fair price for them.

It looks like 1965 was a fairly high mintage year for dollars, but the "medium beads, pointed 5" variety apparently goes for more money. You must be logged in to see this link.

They were in a set. One of each variety for the year. If I get time this week I will stop in and ask what he would take for them.

I am sorry, I failed to mention the sets that I saw that were 50% silver were minted in the 1980's, my apologies.
