I have been into silver and other coins for a long time now but someone in my area is buying 1965-1969 quarters (and halves) for 2x face, has anyone ever heard of a premium like this? How many 1965-1969 quarters can you find in a box?

1965-1969 halves are 40% silver and currently worth about 3.25x face. The quarters...are worth 25 cents, as far as I know. Maybe they're thinking about collector value a few years down the road. |

That's very interesting. I've never thought about keeping a quarter from '65-69. |

Odd sounding to me. What ever floats his boat. He must be thinking LONG term on this one....

It's really against my grain to take advantage of the uninformed, especially since this could be a mistake that will take food off of his' table at some point.
I suggest contacting him and educating him. |

Were any proof set 65-69 quarters 40% silver? Even if so, I doubt he is going to find them this way. I got the feeling the quarters were a misprint, brain freeze or both. If so, he is not going to be a happy camper if he drives 50 miles on his weekend off and is greeted by someone with a $500 worth of 65-69 quarters. |

Someone needs to gently let him down. Then tell him about this great, concerned community. Shoot me his contact information I'll do it.

Concerning the 65-69 Quarters-
I think this guy is looking for the holy grail of 1965 quarters.
From the book "Strike it Rich With Pocket Change" page 150 apparently a few 1965 quarters were struck in the 90% silver blank (the same way some 1983 pennies were struck in copper.)
Find a quarter like that and we are talking a four digit sale price.
Check the edge of any 65 quarters you may find (no copper showing could be all silver)
weigh it to be positive Silver quarter 6.25 grams not silver quarter 5.67 grams

Double check your dimes too since the wrong planchet mixup happened for 1965 1966 & 1967 dimes
Silver dime weight 2.5 grams
not silver dime 2.27 grams
Granted, the chance of finding a dime or quarter like this in circulation is as likely as getting a flying eagle cent in change, but stranger things have happened. |

Doesn't sound probable you'd get one, probably better odds winning the lottery, although I did get an 1864 Indian Head back in change one time |
