Ask at your local scrap yard(s), call 'em up.
The prices vary wildly depending where in the USofA you happen to be.

Just got off the phone with scrap buyer. They raised Clean cast iron to $100 ton and #1 prepared to $120 ton. If I work my buns off I can make a few dollars after expense. Would't you know gas is going up again.

How bad do you want/need FRN's?
Do you have space and can you sit on the Al until the price goes up?
(Gaze deeply into your crystal ball to find when Al will go up and peak.)
Al has been at beter prices than today...
Ultimately it's your call, if I knew the answer I'd probably be picking Loto numbers instead of sorting.

The question is, whether or not you can parlay the money from the scrap into more money. Putting the money from the sale in the bank and earning 1-3% a year is a joke. Where as waiting for the price of scrap to go up even as little as .10 cents would net a much better return. Or you could sell it and invest in some thing like food that has been going up at a average of 10-20% every year.

Just my 2 cents worth...

Lol... Very well said.
It really does come down to whether or not you have the space to store it. If space (and food) is not an issue than I personally would wait. Its a gamble but how much do you have to loose?

Those who trade liberty for security have neither.

Well i have a pole barn i store all my stuff in and food is not an issue so i guess the smart thing to do would be just to hold on till the price of aluminum goes up?

You could always hedge your bets by taking in half and saving half.

Anyway, do you really dumpster dive? Care to share any stories or how/where/why you do it?

I have never dumpster dived but I saw a guide book about it once. Have you ever gotten into trouble?

Most excellent my friend!

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

When I was a kid we used to dumpster dive for snowboards at a snowboard manufacture. We would find usable boards with graphic and other cosmetic flaws. We were chased by security one time.
I'm gonna keep an eye out and try my luck with construction dumpsters.

where i am from the city charges you $12.00 per month for trash and recycling services. Included in this is 2 times a year you can put out large bulky items. This is a great time to pick up scrap metal. i figure if the city is going to charge me $144.00 a year i might as well make some money off them and help my self to a little scrap! What they say one mans trash is anothers treasure!

$12 a freaking month for garbage AND recycling? Dang, I would hate to know what you would do if your city charge you $32..Like some people's cities.
