I think the official term is Brilliant Uncirculated.. but the term is used commercially for just about any uncirculated coin, even those that are not all that shiny. Confusion and problems sometimes arise when each party to a transaction has a different interpretation of exactly what BU means.
On this board usually when we talk about finding a BU penny we are talking about those shiny red ones.
