yielded a penny, a 10 cent singapore, three silvers.

the 59 i almost missed, as it was the first coin in the roll. the 64 stood out like a sore thumb.

5x , one of those 'intuition' coins. just did not look right. covered in crud, but someone had scratched at the date, exposed the 5.

now doing 325 more .

3 silvers for 2.4 boxes, in my opinion, isn't bad. Is the 59 a key date? I don't think I have a 59. I thought you might find this interesting. I have sorted 77 of the 98 customer wrapped rolls (cwrs). The first roll had 3 pennies in it and 47 dimes. The next roll had a play money dime and 49 dimes. I'm thinking....Jeez, I've got 96 more rolls of this! Then I started finding rolls with 1 and sometimes 2 dimes over. I'm currently at a profit of $2.23! Cool huh?

hmnm maybe i should count them lolol. though i have started weighing my 'turn ins' after getting the scale. out of 340 yesterday , i found one i shorted one, and 1 that i overed by one.

my process. if pressed for time, ie, headed to town to turn in coin.or , want the cash immediately.. i just edge sort. open, look, put them back.

if not pressed, i cut the wrapper. put half in my hand to edge look. then onto the sorting tray to actually look at the dates. then dump into a coin-loc bag to be turned in loose.

last week i got one silver, and the s mint, that i would have missed in edgeing.

so , worth the extra time... probably not. but hey , i for one am doing this to take up time.

My hat's off to all you dime sorters, way to small to hand sort, count and hard to see for me.
Good to know sorting those tiny buggers pay off for you.
May you find many more!

There's profit if you melt things!!

I recently posted about the possibility of missing silver by edge sorting. I meant that to mean edge sorting through the plastic wrappers you get from brinks. For a long time I had been face sorting in the hopes of finding a 1982 p-less dime. I have since switched back to edge sorting. I haven't been buying any brinks dimes so the temptation to sort through plastic is removed. Also, I don't like the idea of returning dimes in the plastic wrappers. Plus, loomis rolls come with re-usable plastic rollers. Oh, by the way, the 98 cwr's were $3.03 over!

Cwii, thats great that your banks will let you return dimes in bags. $1000 bags right? I used to do that with pennies and nickles but that bank charged for coins and I have gotten away from both pennies and nickles. With the dimes, I have a method that's pretty quick if I want it to be. I open one end of the roll, slide em' out, and slide em' back in.

I began sorting dimes along with the other denominations of coins back in July for the birthday coin project I am working on for my son's 25th birthday. Since July I have found 6 silver dimes but I only do a few rolls at a time. I'm with Computer Jones...it is so difficult for me to see the dates/mint marks even with a lighted magnifier and a jeweler's (coin) loupe.

When I learned my son would be getting married in January of this coming (2009) year and wanted to be somewhat equal for his new wife for her 25th which will come along two years sooner, I opted not to go for the same coin project and am just trying to fill a quart canning jar with all pennies from her birth year. I'm already thinking of something to do for each of their 30th birthdays.

Only got 1 silver lately, but I did get an impaired proof. I usually just edge check and throw them in a basket. When the basket gets full I drop them in one of the automatic rolling machines and hit the button.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.
