I picked up some CWR's today. There was a solid red roll that was so beat up and frayed and faded it was more pink than anything. It was being held together with masking tape that was so old and dried out that the glue completely failed and was as stiff as a saltine.
I get home and cracked it open not knowing what to expect, and out falls a bunch of '60-'92s. I'm assuming it was wrapped sometime in the early to mid '90s.
As I'm nearing the last of the rolls I open a new plain jane everyday roll you can get at any bank all day long. I pour it out and nothing but cinnimon brown coins fall out. Being used to seeing at least a few shiny coins mixed in, I look a little harder. Nothing but wheatstalks looking up at me.
Except for a clapped out '37, they were all '40 & '50s era. I was hoping for something more special but i'm not complaining. I have gotten pure Cu rolls before, but never pure wheat.
I got 91 wheats in a $25 Brinks box I sorted last weekend. Not too bad considering my previous high had been only 14/box, and the box I sorted tonight contained only 7!!!
Sweet - but it must be hard times for people to be rounding up all those nasty outdated pennies and turning them in...
